Sadly the Parks fly-in has been cancelled due to dust storms and strong winds up to 30Kts, also, the Perisher Snow stake has had a bit to drink, and taken a stumble.

Sheets of rain coming down at Thredbo. Thunder storms SEEM to have passed. Gear completely drenched. Some wintry mix up top (optimistic assessment ;)).

Just plain wet at Hotham, but at least the rain hasn't been consistently heavy, just patchy. Struggling to see any cold air nearby
Hoping tonight but cant see there being much moisture left by then.

Kills it pretty quick, unless it gets covered. One year in the late naughties, we got an inch of dust, then 30cms of snow, then a half inch of dust, then 70cms of snow. It was cool looking at it when they cut the circle at CP.

Dust, wind, a few drops of rain and now a good deal of thunder...really just need more rain!

20190922_095818.jpg Guessing about 2cm of fresh overnight at Hotham, quite dry as well. Has greatly improved the aesthetics, not sure about the runs. The basin was getting pretty chopped even at 10am as observed from Swindlers balcony. Bit more coming tonight and tomorrow. Seriously thinking of doing some actual skiing tomorrow and or Tuesday.

I spy some shower activity associated with the front approaching Western Vic.
Observationally, temps of Mount William (+3C) suggests snow above 1300m for the Alps, early tomorrow AM IMO

I observe -2.1 at Hotham summit and approaching moisture, meaning me with beer in hand glued to window and radar. Yay! Been way too long since I've seen good snow fall.

I'd like to, but with ski school starting at 9, I'm guessing moisture wont hit before midnight.. effort vs reward not looking good.. I report.. it's cold and dry ATM.

just about to post the Buller pic, puking down there, and cams showing light falls at Perisher and Thredbo, hopefully enough to cover all the dust and save the season for another few weekds/days.

The snow's quite low on the hills around my place in Alpine Ridge. I'm guessing come Wednesday it will have all melted again. Buller mountain from my place was looking like it does in January for the past week.

Amazingly there was texture in the rain at the Buller entry gates and some snow settling at gnome corner - around 830am. Snowed all the way up with 5-10cm in the car park and a little more higher up on summit.

Its been very bright to sunny and snowing lightly for the last hour. Looking at radar a bit more moisture coming up from the SW will hopefully mean light snow continuing with the odd heavy burst. Says me with fingers crossed.

Temps and wind direction trending wrong way now at Buller. Snow was very dry early on the hill, now turning to mush. Day car park had lost all 5-10cm by the time we got back just now! Wettish... Defo a day to be in the right place at the right time, as forecast!

Edit - probably still okay higher up - was just very wet lower down on our way back. Not wanting to put a dampener on the school holiday fun! Plus it looks like it's snowing quite heavily again on the cams right now.

Back to medium heavy snow and darker overhead. Hasn't filled in this mornings toboggan tracks as yet. Ohh here's the sun again! Wait 2 minutes snow again.

Ongoing wet snow showers throughout the afternoon at DP. Made for a glorious post ski outdoor spa...I'd guess the freezing level at about 1450m - 1500m.
Hotham was generally fun but quite variable today. It was cold enough at the open for the 5cm of fresh to be great fun rather than hard work. It felt strangely "creamy" (could be my new skis...). Anyway, by the time that got chopped up the temps must have risen because it became very sticky and catchy and a lot harder to navigate with dignity. A couple of hours later that was bashed down into some sort of mush / paste masquerading as snow that was actually faster and back to being fun again. How good is Aussie spring skiing?! (apologies to S. Morrison)

Snowed light/medium on and off all day, heavy floaty flakes at times. Very pretty. Hoping for a good freeze with a dusting tonight and tomorrow should be GOOD!

At the risk of double thread posting snow flurries all day at charlottes pass up to 3” in places. Although close to freezing all day the snow stayed fast and creamy smooth. Stopped snowing now, it’s cold though.
