Ok thanks for that... God damn NSW resorts seem to always be getting the good stuff
the snow (if that is what it was ) has stopped on the falls cam and it decidedly wet
"Too Warm, Temps Rising, Rain"
It will rain over Vic resorts until tomororw afternoon/evening when the cooler air comes through, doubt there will be much left in the system by that time.
Some heavier rain about to come through Melbourne, we need as much as we can get water storages are falling and we will have more restrictions from next month.
I also fertilized all the fruit trees today, so a nice dump of rain will do nicely please.
As for the snow, who cares at this stage, 10 cms or so isn't going to save the season at Buller anwyway.
Heavy rain at the moment looks set to last about 30 or so mins, and it's also over Buller at the moment.
Temps up to +1C at Thredbo (up about 1.5C in the last hour) and precip rapidly closing in. Here's hoping either the precip withers away or temps drop back around zero so at least the top of the mountain gets something out of it.
with the temp would just take it easy and fall back down
Well it'll be dumping up the top of Kosci and that's about it.
OK, that's it, 2006 season is finished (never really started) - Someone turn the light off on the way out.
Yibida Yibida, see you all next year.
still could be a little dusting tonight and tomorrow...
so glad i saved that $400 or so dollars that i would of spent. i think i will buy a new surfboard
or 3/4 of one
New custom and off the rack surf boards start around $450. If you want bling boards ya pay lost more.
especially if you want the brand names, ripcurl, strapper etc...
whats the overnight damage been?
anyone up there to give us an insight
Yep, I'd like to know too.
I can see a few white blury streaks on the carpark cam, the rest of the mountain is a white out.
Edit: Ouch, those temps are high...
Smiggins looks bloody awful:
Any idea when the temps might start to drop?
been raining at perisher pretty much non stop since about 3 am hopefully the freeze level drops soon ... looking at that web cam image in realife atm at smiggins it really is that terrible
W-zone calling 10cms above 1400m for tomorrow
Got up at 7 looked and went straight back to bed.
Tragic I tell you.
11:32 just risen again. Going to get the groceries and a big bottle of Chivas.
More rain heading to the resorts. At least the farmers will be a bit happier.
12.6 mm of rain at the top of Thredbo and +2 degrese.
Even Merrits has big brown patches.
In the famous words of reverend lovejoy - "It's all over, people. we don't have a prayer"
hope something better happens tomorrow. been watching that rain band all morning and hoping the temps will drop
weatherzone say 10cms will fall tomorrow.
it's not over yet.
It is over. 10cm on on a miserable base of washed-out slush and mud?! Nothing extra forecast to fall during next week. Maybe a couple of cm's next weekend. Then winter finishes and spring starts with probably a <50cm base at spencers and nothing at all in Vic.
Con'on, 06' is cactus! - nail the bloody coffin shut on this season before it smells any worse than it already does.
That forecast 10cm is only for the peaks. The lower and middle slopes will probably end up getting next to nothing.
Falls carpark is looking wet again, I think I'm gonna cry....
it is 10cm above 1400m, thats below the bottom of perisher.
...and marginally above the top of Easy-Does-It at Thredbo
I'm with Mattus - think positive thoughts!
Above Hotham will be up there tomorrow
Temps slowly starting to drop.
It's +0.5C top of Thredbo, down from +2.2C around 8am but the AWS is still reporting rain.
Should change to "Wintery Mix" and then "Snow" soon hopefully.
1 week in PB from Sunday, I am thinking very positively. Anyone in PB now ? Hoping to see this arvo that temps have dropped. 1 day out forecast hopefully/should be correct.
i doubt we've lost 10cm from this rain, so a 10cm top up will put us at even at worst, if not a slight gain.
I'm there this weekend
I'm sorry all you doomsayers will be stuck at home, really I am.
Back up to 0.9c......
I guess I'll pack the golf clubs for this weekend rather than the skis....
How to become depressed, click on BoM radar and then click on Hotham observations and view ambient temp. Actually getting warmer in Hotham.
Looks like I spoke too soon, back to 1C at Thredbo now.
Pressure has been dropping though......what a pr1ck tease.....
I spoke to soon in july... wat a **** season ey, heres to 07
Man, so far they have had almost an inch of rain at the top of thredbo.
The place will be a river.
Lost easily 10cm.
Snow falling tonigh will get washed away by the torrent of water flowing down the slopes.
Carn't blame you for the optimistic view since you are up there all weekend but get real.
BOM forecast is a nightmare, 11-20mm of rain, Thunderstorms tonight then a chance of 1-5 cm of snow on friday.
Only 2.5mm at Falls, pheff, however i suspect that little unrecorded drizzle and moist warm air wouldn't be very good for the cover. None the less, when it snows (*if it snows*) tonight, it could be made up for.
It seems new south wales always seem to get a crapload more rain when it rains, is this due to elevation?
I was told Hotham had 7mm of rain overnight and it has drizzled pretty much all day.
Coffin's being lowered..... Should it be covered with soil in the morning or will the corpse be resurrected in the wee small hours by the omnipotent hand of Huey?
Stay tuned viewers.....
Can we hope for some cold nights next week to throw some plastic snow on whats left ??
Just cancelled my trip for next weekend and booked a flight to Christchurch. Will ski Mt Shut next weekend (hopefully its open) on a 2.5 metre base. Only costing about $200 more however I will loose the friday skiing with travel.
Thats it I think Oz 2006 is goneski! Better luck next year.
