Bit going on in the Bight this morning.
ASCAT pass (7am) revealing >50 knots through the backside, at the core.
Albany Wave Buoy registering 7.5m swell height overnight.
Heading up tonight so will have live obs from Buller.
Oh and should this be tagged ‘Obs’ not ‘Tutorial’?
Crispy as but spectacular weather at Buller
For a piss warm night in the mountains - it sure is cold on the coast today. Hope thats a good sign. As it was like early summer here yesterday at Gerroa. Nearly went for a dip - but that would be truly jinxing the rest of the season now wouldn't it!
Firm first up this morning and getting pretty soft by afternoon. Sunshine was nice but definitely needs a top up. Hopefully have something more interesting to provide obs from falls tomorrow.
Got to 17c in Canberra was balmy. Also i notice that Canberra has only had 22mm or rain so far this winter its really dry out there. If we dont get alot more its going to be bad in Summer and Snowy Hydro might have issues with power production. Eucumbene is barely 20% still.
Yeah canberra was mild today when I stopped for lunch.
Alas. The Canberrians were still wearing HUGE jackets and so forth.
Still 19 at Obs Hill 24 tomorrow feels like Spring
I saw some one lady in civic wearing a full arctic Canadian Goose parker complete with coyote fur lined hood. Good for -40c but 17c in Canberra lol.
Chances are she's from my postcode (Bondi) and drives a Range Rover; complete with destroyed low-profile rims.
In other news Portland Harbour just dropped 7C in 1 hour. Cool change, is upon Western Vic.
Damn windy here in NW Tassie, think the roof is hanging on by its finger nails.
Mount Buller on the bubble at -0.1c currently, a rise of a degree or two in recent hours, and light precip on the approach.
Mount William picked up 10mil over night.
11.6mm of clear stuff since midnight last night and counting, NW coast Tassie.
Main frontal boundary passing through Gippsland at the moment.
trailing embedded low/trough (showing better on the loop) highlighted below, in the Bight.
This band should bring the heaviest falls through the mainland Alps, 8pm-12am tonight.
New snow on the stairs this morning
Liking the dark skys at Perisher.
First flakes started at falls . Wind picking up
Dusting overnight at Buller
Coming down nicely at the moment at falls
Had to pop up to village briefly this morning. Confirm dusting at village level at Buller. SL about 1400-1500m I reckon, had been lower earlier by looks of it. Was raining lightly in day car park when I parked.
Falls Slalom Plaza
Kudos to the groomer that did that.
Looking good for incoming at Guthega
She's blowing in Jindy.
Beat me to it. Gotta be gusts upwards of 120kmh. You can just make out the white caps in this pic
am observing perisher.com.au says " so much snow".............. hopefully we dont get much more snow or site my change this to " too much snow"
Pretty wild at Buller but the snow is building.
can you send some up to NSW?
Snow flurries at blue cow , oddly not to windy
Wind before a front...Then it drops.
Then picks up again when the front actually arrives.
Its pretty common.
The pressure gradient gets squeezed in front of the front like a bow wave.
However as that wave passes ... it drops slightly.
Snowing on High Noon Cam..
Pretty marginal at falls the last hour or so. Came back in as we were getting a bit damp. Hoping it improves soon.
Dumb question, how do I embed and video/photo I've uploaded so it appears/plays automatically in thread without having to open link?
'insert media' button (looks like a film symbol), then paste the link to the media
First flakes appearing at Perisher. Wind seems to be picking up after a rather quiet morning.
Thredbo live cams showing snowing starting to fall.
Snowing nicely on all Thredbo cams now. Perhaps a bit wet at Friday Flat.
Fine sago an hour ago, slowly increasing to lots of fine windblown snow at Charlotte Pass.
Temps marginal at Buller. LBS actualy skiing nicely!
Snow stopped, fog rolled in at Charlotte Pass.
Sago has stopped bouncing off people now at the bottom of Perisher. Punters looking very wet as they come inside. Normo fears not: when I mentioned it was now wet outside as he headed for the door, he quickly responded by saying "It's a winter sport. You get wet sometimes!" Will be acvumulating white gold up higher.
