Snowing again but quite consistently now for the past half an hour in Thredbo, still windy as.
What is this cloud mass spinning off Tasmania heading towards the Alps. Worth a watch
Movie at http://satview.bom.gov.au/
Looks like the Southern Hemisphere Polar Jetsteam.
My guess; Stratocumulus, possibly Asperitas given it's forming in lee of elevation. Nothing more than virga if it was to precipitate IMO. The BoM radar supports this.
Not to be confused with the blue on a BOM radar - this is high level so much colder, hence the Himawari reflection.
mmm ok, decent snow in Tassie though
Snowing again at Perisher looking at the cams.
A salubrious system for Tas. I would not be surprised at hearing of places with a foot of fresh snow above 1200m IMO (SW National park!?).
EDIT: Mt Read picked up 32mm today @1100m according to BOM AWS.
Dusting on Perisher cam. Snowmaking on at the bottom of cruiser in Thredbo.
No more than a dusting in Smiggins. Wind has eased a fair bit from yesterday afternoon and the cloud appears to be breaking up. Photo from our lounge room 5 minutes ago:
Thredbo are reportedly 1cm.
The aftermath of the overnight pukage
Looks like something that fell out of someones pocket on the way the pub dunnies. Nothing more...
Meanwhile in Tasmania...
Can they push that North a bit?
Seemed quite warm last night in Thredbo village, was actually surprised to see the dusting, and guns going up the hill, instead of at FF. thank god, so sick of inversions!
Cute little snowman on the Cedarwood Cam's this morning
Oh yeah, Mawson won this morning.
Outside the date range but I just thought I'd share, Hard white frost outside this morning with an apparent temp of -4.2 and I am only 3 kms from the coast. I tried to put the rubbish into my wheely bin but had to pries the lid open with a screw driver is was frozen solid.
First real frost of the season here in NW tassie.
What's your elevation?
Old Chopps had a dusting on Saturday morning although nothing significant and was gone within an hour or two.
Probably about 10m ASL but the AWS devonport were the reading was taken is about 2m ASL at most. Its at the Devonport airport which is right against the beach.
Pretty substantial at such a low ele, close to the coast.
A workmate reported frost on the beach this morning BBrrrrrr
