Tricky one, this one. Not likely to be a lotta love for the Snowies and Vic Alpine. All the same we've currently got an inversion with Cooma warming up outta negs (& precip!?). Still light winds in the resorts at elevation, 10-15km/h in the NSW Resorts.
It's going to be interesting how much heat from the day escapes before the wet stuff arrives. Building from the north and a couple of degrees at 1900m.
Precip band incoming from the NNE, Thredbo just sitting above zero deg C. Fingers crossed, you'd have to say we are in with a chance of flakage tonight up high. Dunno what upper level temps are though.
Not snow I'd imagine at Corin yet - too straight? Although Mt Ginini is 2.5 deg C. Perisher OTOH - maybe?? Trying??
Moonbah @ 4 degrees and light steady rain..... Pretty much the same all the way up to PV where it’s hovering around zero and unfortunately, wet and foggy. A few cms on the carpark being “eroded”. The occasional flurry so maybe a bit better at higher elevations.
It’s wet snow and falling steady. GAP filler IMO. Waiting for higher elevations to open. Skiing off the groomers hard going at low elevations. Low vis. Light breeze.
Just drove Jindy to Thredbo, persistent steady rain the whole way. Temp dropped from 7c in Jindy to 4.5C here in the village.
@ around 2000 ASL there’s 5 - 6 cents - at least at 10:00 am there was. Less down lower. Gaps were being filled so that was good. Skied ok (not great) down to about the mid point on Eyre but from there it was the heaviest “snow” I’ve encountered in a very long time. Heavily saturated and plain hard going, even though it’s not particularly deep. Will be fun when it eventually freezes
Light rain sporadically falling at the High Perch , nil wind and temp a steaming 7c. Not particularly nice today.
It was toasty at Buller today, the slowest snow I've skied all season. So warm. And when we got back down to base near the entry gates the kids were playing outside in t-shirts and shorts. Currently showing 15 degrees on my outside thermometer but guessing it was even warmer earlier. Amazing that there are flakes on the other side of the border!
arning to Sheep Graziers for the Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains forecast districts Issued at 2:26 pm EST on Sunday 26 July 2020. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
It’s trying to snow here in Smiggs. It’s a wintry mix hitting the glass. Come on everyone, prey your assess off.
Blue Cow showing some heavy falls. And the radar showing lots more to come. Problem is the temperature. But it is dropping. Just the Cold Pool is headed north.
Colder air is to the Sou east of the alps. Not to the north. Its should push up this arvo as the low moves south.. "colder" is relative though.. There also lies some stable cooler air to the west of tassie and up towards Mildura.
I don't want to get into predictions. But the cold pool is predicted to push north. So my concern is the snow turning to rain again later. Edit: Actually. Just took another look. Some colder air coming in behind as well. Sorry for the prediction. But this is what I'm talking about. This time tomorrow.
Will wax and wane throughout today. Colder air (ish) this eve. Wintery mix is the catch-phrase of the day for Thredbo & Peri. The war on marginal conditions will not be won @ +1.5C. And certainly not when the uppers are north of -20C
I observe very wet and wintery condtions at Island Bend (Kozi, 1430m). The good news is that it is about 1.0 degrees cooler than yesterday's wet and wintery mix! All will be forgiven if cold air arrives at 1700+m and the precipitation turns a wonderful white.
agree pow. imo all the cold pool will do is snap freeze the sodden snow. might be some small accumulation, but whats left of the off piste will remain no go.
Here’s the current challenge regarding this event. I was on Mt P for a few hours this morning. Wind was howling and really “deforming” the falling snow which was very, very wet. What fell was amalgamating where it fell as opposed to accumulation - per sey. The accumulation did not seem to match the quantity falling. Hopefully that changed as I left. The snow level had definitely lowered by 11:00 am. If you took a stock (away from the groomers) it could readily be pushed into the snowpack, quite deeply, with minimal effort. Wet, soft and not easy skiing. Needs a refreeze. I also observed quite a net loss over the past 24 hours. That’s concerning from the perspective of how the resort can manage numbers etc. Hopefully there’s more accumulation over the next 24 hours.
Lots of moisture left in this. But sorry. Not seeing the cold air headed for the mountains, IMO.. I see temps, steady as she goes in the region. Perhaps with nightfall the mix will get dryer.
All things considered I’m sitting here at Smiggs, and as long as it Doesn’t get any worse *some* of it will start to settle. It’s not great, but damn it could’ve been a lot worse IMO
I see dryer flakes on the brilliant shared Perisher cam and snot and a pox on Thredbo live camS that they don’t share with the best observation site in the World.. here !
