Wind just ramped up here in Sydney big time (Northern beaches)
Let me clarify. Not much moisture with the cold pool. Only about 5cm at Perisher since temps were optimal. IMO. But it is a start. Any snow is good snow at this time. And without fumbling into a prediction, outlook looks promising.
Even last year by midday Sunday they had skiers left groomed and open top to bottom. You can troll about Perishers shorter runs, but their snowmaking, (and fortitude to start making early) put them far ahead of the other aus resorts. There have been days in both of the last two years when Thredbo has been closed in late June or July and Perisher has had Front Centre Mt P and Blue cow open from snowmaking.
And you didn't drop in?
I was wondering where the photos you posted were from.
It's flogging it down on South Peris cam.
Nice plumbers crack!
Perisher passing 10cm, the main range will be nice
Snowing on and off at FC village, about to go out for a wander around the village. Brisk -2 according to the phone. Snowing lightly as I type this, road has been cleared twice now and the car is nicely covered.
I'll wave as I pass cedar wood cam!
Slowly but surely.
Wet and 6 degrees in Kambah.
Went for a good walk around Falls village for about 2 hours. A very good layer of 5-10cm across the entire village. Soft and fluffy goodness. Lots of ankle deep around.
-3c and still lightly snowing as I type this crawling into bed for the early rise tomorrow morning.
The best I could do with my phone.
*sigh* Being on night shift has resulted in 1 thing for me... watching snow cams all night, itching at the thought of jumping in the car and heading up just to enjoy the first bit of decent snow this year...
Looks like yellow snow. We understand your excitement.
Snow guns blazing in Front Valley, right now.
About 18mm in the Perisher AWS since temps went sub 0 around 3pm yesterday .
*Perisher AWS is susceptible to collecting blowing snow
Good morning cedarwood table
How so more likely than others ?
By their very nature they need to be in a clear , free-standing & exposed location.
Perisher aws is adjacent the Home Rope tow IIRC.
Blue bird day in Perisher.
I also observe the Mt P , Olympic and B Cow cams etc have not updated.....
Maybe they didn't get so much , or am I getting too cynical too early in the season ??
edit , they just refreshed.
Through many years of watching obs, I recognise it as an anomaly to others. Perhaps it sits in a hollow or lee of a ridge or crest... I am not sure.
Looks OK to me.
Friday Flat Thredbo
yes they refreshed short time ago.
I can see a dusting of snow on some of the hills around Jindy. Nothing at my place in town though
Tele Ho !
Upper Blue Mtns, feeling wintery this morning, 2.6C, wind chill -3.3C
early morning stroll.
snow level down to ~1100m in central vic.
Some pics of Perisher this morning, snow all the way from below park gates
Glorious morning at Falls. Doesn't look like much more fell over night but it's beautiful with the sun out now.
Guns were going when I went out at 6:30
I've taken hundreds of photos on my DSLR but only a few on my phone. Soz
frothin for snow...
Winter is coming here!!!!!!!!!
This is a different picture depending on how I hold my phone!
Falls this morning. I reckon there was probably another 2-5cm that fell overnight. Clouds have come back over now.
Perisher social media claiming 20 cm.
It 'aint official until snowy hydro records it (on Thursdays, once a week).
Until then it's spin.
That is beautiful
You can ski all round the world but snow in Australian alpine forest is just special
makes a happy Monday
I note some of Perisher snow depths clams are bit like the claims of an old mate of mine who was known for his exaggerations in the pub after a big day of skiing.
'You simply halve them and a bit' - easy pezy!
Thredbo says they had the snow guns going last night. Can anyone see where that may have been? Possibly the bottom of Merits...?
Sounds about right. Going off the Bom aws.
Reports of 20cm at Perisher seem overly optimistic. 5-10cm more reasonable.
Road closed beyond Perisher.
20cm measured in a wind drift - done
Bit of snow on a flat road and they close it down
Glad they're not in charge of Northern Hemisphere roads or whole countries would be brought to a standstill with the first fall of snow
Very very lightly snowing in Falls village as we sadly leave the mountain. Still -1 according to the car
Then again you can't trust an Aussie rubbernecker driving in the snow... Oh the carnage! I can understand exactly why they close it!
