Yes they get into a panic very quickly here....4x4 quite able to cross BHP Rd with difficult parts near Cope Hut and the highest point out near Mt.Cope.Rd good for 4x4 drift surfing sometimes.....then sometimes Alpine Ash trees toppling over road as one goes lower......

Yet it's done for safety....we just except their judgement.....once they locked gate and I was stuck on FallsCk side after a day trip to Ropers Hut with gates closed....with big frontal system comming over night.A phone call to Cops and half an hour later they sent somebody to unlock gate!!
The folk from Nth Hemisphere are somewhat more skilled to drive these roads...it's fun out there but obviously you don't want to get caught in a drift overnight..

I just accept their decision as to when they lock BHP Rd.In past years they did not padlock gates at first snow but closed them and wrapped chains around them....you knew that you accepted the risks in unlocking them and proceeding past!!

Bit more natural snow and a solid week of snowmaking weather. Opening weekend trip looks like delivering some decent groomed skiing.

Can't be real. Everybody knows you need a base of at least 1m before you can ski. Quite irresponsible. I recommend that everybody wait until mid august.

Temps didn't get above 0 in Perisher today. Guns on at 4:00 pm (currently -2.9) and should run all night so will get enough down in the next week to push a groom run in for Front Valley. Does not look like they are switching on snowmaking beyond FV at this stage. Hopefully Mother Nature helps out tomorrow.

I looked at the cams at 3:30 and they were blasting away then, could have come on earlier than that.

A bit off topic but I asked elsewhere, what happened to the Mountainwatch live cam at Perisher? I got a kick in the evenings last year watching the guns firing up.

I believe they turn them off around 10am because they only run during their negotiated off peak power time until June, then in June they are on whenever its cold.

LOL Just saw the CH10 weather girl quote the temps at Perisher / talk about Perisher, overlaid with vision from Thredbo today.

Drove back from Melbourne via Thredbo today. Rd was clear but a good 10cm cover around 1600m.
Drove through a good snow shower around Siberia.

Tomorrow's system squaring up for Tassie. Speckled cloud looks few and far between.

FWIW there's some great convection lighting up well off the coast of Indo this arvo that's getting caught in the sub-trop jet SE bound...

I was wondering how Tassie was faring from all this. Their turn is yet to come by the sound of it.

7mm in the can since midnight, looks like it picked up some rain in the village.

Forgot to mention - driving down falls yesterday it looked like snow settled down to around 1,100-1,000m.

Didn't take a photo of my car but it took a good 15 mins to clear off the snow from the night before. It looked like 10cm on the roof

Not likely. Village snow cam suggest soggy conditions with maybe a fraction of snow cover on top of what was received Sunday eve.
