beautiful, cold, crisp morning in Sydney. Winter is here
Only 5 degrees at sunny Thirroul
1 deg in the bega valley.
I observed that earlier this morning at 7, Canberra was colder than the top of Thredbo!
Even got as low as -4 in Dubbo earlier this morning. Thought it was cold when i woke up.
This is why i never trust phone weather apps. Skis are ready just in case.
Observations only in this thread.
Even Lake Mountain getting some love today, after early rain threatened to wipe away yesterday's white stuff.
Went up to LM yesterday. 5-10cm across the resort. Snow blower was cranked. Walked up summit as well, some nice blown spots below trees.
I observe having to scrap frozen dew from my windscreen this morning. 9 mile from the GPO Sydney
Sleeting at 700m asl on Mt Wellington
Few coldies coming through MtEliza.
Baw baw should do well
Temps at Buller and BB are marginal.
Buller had quite a bit of precip overnight - 15mm after midnight. Temps were slightly negative. Had another 5mm in the past two hours. Would be interested to get a report from the hill on what's falling.
baw baw should get 10-15 imo
Bloody cold. I'm never cold.
Snow coming down now at Buller.
About 850m asl on Mt Wellington, road closed to summit so had to settle for heavy sleet pics....
Or so I thought... now stopped.
Yeah I figured with that airstream and the direction of the showers.
Am surprised it's not colder up higher though.
The VS cam showed nothing an hour or so ago, while the APIRA cam had snow falling. So, nothing, (or maybe r**n), lower, and snow a little further up the hill. Probably continue on and off like that until this next system arrives.
Some nice looking speckled cloud.
with 850 winds , just enough cool injected into that wintery mix .
I observe the 500 's even better.
Can see why Tassie is getting some treatment.
Tomorrow's colder/drier for sure. I observe it's playing out a little like Sunday's game IMO.
The surface level H is possibly the culprit , dragging some warmer air into the mix it appears.
Drier air actually. mid-levels are rubbish. Wintery mix is from lower atmosphere so it's got bugger all chance through the marginal temps (@2500m and below).
White stuff coming down at Buller again. LINK
Poor pic quality sorry, but a dusting on Mt Wellington today. I'll post Hotham shots Friday....
The moisture gauge is ticking over very, very slowly at Perisher. It's up to a stunning 1.4mm.
Yeah, lots of cold air pushing through but not alot of moisture. Not as minty as I hoped.
Better than warm air and no snowmaking capability.
Nice little shower rolling through Inner SE Melb right now. Hope that SW flow keeps on for another few centimetres.
@jezzak successfully convinced @Dave Clark to keep trying to convince Buller IT to update the Bourke St and Village Cams at night, Bourke St in particular is a great obs resource:
I reckon watching the statue disappear will become quite the sport in Obs threads.
Got a night off from my recent night shifts and will struggle to sleep, so going to head up towards Lake Mountain and then take the 9 mile rd down the west side of Baw Baw. Most of this is 1000m+ so will let you know whats out there on my return.....
don't wanna sound like 'that guy' but, drive safe mate.
-4.3c at Buller now. I will be super surprised if they don't open Bourke St for the weekend.
Guns blazing away there...
Do my best to make it home in 1 piece, got a family to return to........
So, got sleet at 950m or so around 6km out of Marysville.
Snowing by 1000m, and settling on the ground by 1100m.
Around 1.5-2cm at Lake Mountain at 12.30am.
Once out past Cumberland Junction on the Warburton-Woods Point Rd, the snow was settling on the ground down to 900m at the top of the Big River Valley. This continued all the way down 9 mile rd towards Noojee. A good 2cm in parts thru this section.
It was only below 900m that the snow on the ground disappeared, sleet was around till 850m or so.
So much nicer driving gravel roads at night when you have snow on the roadside. Much easier to follow where the road is going next, and none of the 'where'd the grip go' that you get on snowy tarmac. (at least with only a cm or 2 on the ground)
This was the view at around 1100m on the 9 mile rd heading to Noojee.
I observe this event has moved past groundcooler and is almost certainly a base builder
I observe light dry snow falling on my garden. Moonbah@1100 metres. Just started and won't be much.
Mount Wellington, Hobart, yesterday arvo. 30/05/2017 Captured from Rose Bay High's cam. > http://www.rosebay.tas.school/webcam/
lightly snowing in jindy
I observe 3 Missed calls from my mother, so must be true!
Buller confirmed opening on Friday...
"First resort in Australia"
Spell me Buller marketing team.
Thredders already claiming first tracks in a vid they posted on fb.
That ice shredder isnt cheap to run.
gotta cash in to make it worthy.
after all it is why they invested.
I note fresh vehicle tracks up the Blue Cow road this morning. Means there isn't much snow about. DO not like.
930am and they are still blowing snow on Front Valley. Groomers are out.
