Says it all! Thanks @Boodwah for making my day...
The Hunt for White May doesn't quite sound the same as The Hunt for White October. But who really cares:)

Sorry POW , good work by the way :cheers:
Obs .........High perch ,wind is west/norwest 21kmph , 27mm rain today (108 total) , temp is hovering around 1c right now , expect negative temps before midnight.
Its just really tourist snow.. hey How many years have we had lifts running in April, how many time does the snow last and not melt.
You would be surprised how many have claimed a few turns today and some have equipment that needs no lifts ;).By the way its May1 in NSW , I wish QLD would catch up with the rest of us sometime :):D

It has snowed hard all day. Could be 50 on the ground, apparently Family Run gauge is reading 62 and that’s the one that counts most.

@CarveMan my wife says to thank you for the skinning track up standard
obs - went for a post work snow shoe and was groin deep...
we're up at buller doing work on an apartment - the weather says mid July - but the vibe feels post apocalyptic

Great Obs thank you! - You live in a stunning part of the world, very jelly!

thank you @balmz. You might think differently if you had to brave tonight’s temperatures, to make the 10 steps required from the front door, outside to the wood shed for your shower, and then back again!LOL

Today, Friday, it’s finally winter!

This was on the surrounding hills. It was late morning today, and was really just the beginning

Sleeting from around 800 metres, proper snow from around 1000m, and starting to fall even more heavily from midday. This continued for much of the day, and was breathtakingly beautiful watching it fall, sticking in the Gumtrees with their colourful trunks, and looking like lacework in the ferns.

These aren’t quite the type of first tracks I’d prefer, but with C-19 shutdowns, it may be the best I get this season!

Nice afternoon of home schooling in which we ditched the books to climb waterfalls. The snow was truly awful, bunching up on our pattern bases until each ski weighed more than 20kg. After a while we had to ditch them.
Interesting that the amphitheatre of Carmichael obviously provided a significant firebreak for DP. The Falls were working as their very own snowmaking machine, and it was all very pretty.

Well, regarding snowfall here…that was an absolute fizzer for my local micro-climate. No more than 4 cm from that (event total; since 30 April). It appears that the precipitation yesterday was just too far west, not even touching the SW Slopes—even Cabramurra only got 4.6 mm of total precip yesterday. Hunters Hill (981 m) in Victoria got around 20 mm yesterday with 1° C temps, so likely a heavy fall of snow out there.

At least the cold didn't fizzle out; reached a max temp of just 0.4° C yesterday, which is very cold for the start of May. Also my first freezing-point max temp of 2020.

So nice. When I was a lifty on Southside and Federation it was always nice to get a sneaky run in the tall trees.

Spectacular! I've never seen the falls from the perspective of pic 8. They way you've captured the falls makes it feel / look like Nth America.

Full jealous and tanx for sharing.

"Lady Penelope, post: Lovely snow pics, everyone.

Meanwhile in Canberra it’s been wet and most definitely wintry today (max 8 degrees, I think). Fire going ....

Plenty more at Buller. Snowed heavily all yesterday, solid snow all night, still snowing varying between light and heavy. I would say more than 70cm all up. Hard to tell. Snow almost impossible to walk through knee to waste deep.View attachment 128225

Anyone at Buller looking to ski today? I was thinking Standard or Cow Camp then walk back to main road. Need a partner in crime. Anyone?

Thats funny Jani. !!! I am still on Canada time after the 5m of Pow we had over there, so it was April. lol Nice to see Perisher claim 55cm , sounds and looks correct. It was a little higher than I thought, we still have till tomorrow. Some of this may actually get to hang around. Queensland is very happy not to catch up with the NSW CV state!! lol Be better if it was June and everything was open again. And we had a cure.

So the gate at smigs for the link road is now closed (was open yesterday).

Heaps more cars around than yesterday.

Very deep on the road to Guthega. Road is only cleared to the power station.

My drive (in a Larger) abandoned his attempt to get to Guthega because it was so deep.

Their friends got stuck in the car park of Perisher (which is not cleared) in their Forrester. 4 people had to help them out LOL

Photos soon.
