Wood Run and Sun Valley stacked.
Has Buller broken their total season snowfall record yet?
I was going to say - most snow i have seen at Buller ever.
I observe CP is claiming 1 metre
Short memories, 2017/8.....
I'm just pissed off because i missed out. And had a shocker at golf this morning - all the while wishing i had gone to thredbo instead. When had very wintery rain for about 3 holes also, enough to put a few green under water.
Where in a drift? The cams do not indicate 1m - though they primarily focus on windy areas. I guess @SMSkier will soon be making us all feel terrible with his "local" photos! The truth will soon be revealed.
A proper obs report will follow but just managed to get these out during a brief break in the weather.....thank you nature.
I like a few others missed out on much of this event, still only 5mm of rain and then plenty of wind to dry it out. NSW far south coast a rain shadow this time.
Ron would have made it
Drive up to PV. Gate closed there. Road cleared to Smigs with a bit of ice and snow past there. Car parks not being cleared but a grader was being despatched to do the PV to CP road.
Managed a short skin up past mid station but not to the top. Just too windy up high with driving snow plus visibility not the best at altitude. Weather was however contracting to the higher ground.
Checked the depth on a small drift. It’s right beside a track I walked a few days back. There are deeper ones up there and I reckon much deeper up a bit higher. Variable depths but the 60 or so cms claimed is on the mark. Ranged from ice, wind packed to deep. Keep away from the mint bushes though. I expect to find better in the next 2 days by venturing higher.
Skied ok coming back out and should hold up for a few days with the cold temps. Was lucky to get a brief break doing the final run down Front Valley....
Love it SM. If I get a clear day or two to tidy things up around here then I might get up there maybe Tuesday.
How’s this. Ski then come home for a beer and watch the remaining weather to the SW. Nice cloud bank of the decaying storm that’s contracting but still giving a little more over the peaks.
Sorry, lots of photos but today was pretty spesh. After a few false starts, including having to go back to wax my waxless skis on account of glooping-up Oz elephant snot, we finally headed east, and then south to the upper Victoria headwaters. The snow was crazy heavy and difficult to manage, but we still had a few fun schusses. Then down to the Victoria itself where Balti amazingly managed to find a worm under a two foot snow pack. But unfortunately no trout... Then back home for noodles and a beer.
winning. Kid looks like you boodwah. I thought he was you in one of those skiing shots!
dog must be exhausted!
amazing cover, thanks for the pics
What you saying about my skiing?
True though, was his first tele turn.
Dog is dead, too exhausted to even eat
Someone I know sent me these photos of the Upper Taggerty Track dated 2.5.20 in the broader Marysville state forest/Yarra Ranges N.P. area in Victoria . The locked management road sits at approximately 1100 M. It looks like some out of season rock hopper XC skiing may or not have taken place. My friend can neither confirm nor deny this matter.
My friend told me the skiing was kind of marginal rock hopper stuff and that his pattern base ski got caught on a rock and he had a bad fall .He told me that he drank half a cup of cold wet cement ,hardened the eff up and kept skiing until the snow ran out at 1000 M. ASL and then turned back.
My friend also shared the observation with me that AWD and All terrain mud and snow rated tyres are SO GOOD for driving in DEEP Fresh rain affected snow and slush , but cautioned that any such trips this coming white season must be done with a chain saw and related equipment .These things should be kept handy in the vehicle and ready to access at all times along with snow chains.
Hey @dawooduck do you remember the van in the smigs carpark?
Yeah he left it there overnight...
Plumbers van with frozen pipes
A very cold evening
the normality of that picture gives me confidence for another decade yet!
It's what made me look closer. First thought was, must have been really manky snow for you to be in a survival stance like that. But zoomed in and realised it was the boy.
Still snowing at Falls
Baw baw gauge still ticking over just in neg temps
Hardly stopped raining at the base of falls since Wednesday
Right off the PV cams as is..... no doubt about how much has landed on the alpine!!
Wowsers. Hello August.
Wow, only locals can enjoy for now. Touring today will be awesome. Enjoy SMSkier, I look forward to your report. Us Canberrans unfortunately can't go into NSW to exercise yet.
The Buller snow cams are amazeballs this morning.
Picture postcard from Hoth
No words.. Just.. phewooorrgghhh.. I'd love to be there, even just to sit and gaze at the glory!
Last one of the cedar wood table; ‘after the storm’
Beautiful morning from Mt Wellington.
Still -5C at top station... in full sun!
Mag effing nificent !!!
They should get the groomers out and start pushing from the side of the off piste onto the runs And into big mounds and tarp it until start of the season!
Mr. Tee approved chook footing locations, esp. Mt. Buffalo resemble a blue bird day in early August but sans the Mr. Tee ski tracks.
Forum Members would know in a more normal world I would be XC skiing at all of these places in quick succession , in a burst of activity and long distance driving that would be remarkable.

More FOMO but this snow storm has cheered us confinement wallahs up ,
even if we did not get to enjoy it in person
Lake Mountain's Snow Camera shows us that LM looks the goods today. Sunny with full snow cover!!. The skiing up there would be rated as "complete cover " , one would imagine. The upper trails would be skiable for sure!
how wonderful to enjoy this paradise with your son and dog.
wish I was local -(
Mt Bogong 5 minutes ago taken from my place.
It should look better this afternoon.
What a view to have!
Who wants to babysit four young kids? I promise that they are Corona free. I'll pick 'em up when it rains again.
