In an ordinary world where people can just get in the car and drive to have a ski May snow nuking down is fine with me. Any out of season non resort skiing is always a bonus. However this year it matters not where nor when the snow falls. The CV19 computer says NO!
IMO big snow in April isn't a great indicator in previous years. But lets say it fell in May, we're all cool!

Diurnal low for Hotham was -4 degrees
For Thredbo, it was -4.5 degrees.
So it’s been quality cold.
If only it was on top of a 1m base in July with no restrictions..
I think you meant to type posterity. There is little prosperity in piles of fresh snow that we cannot ski on.As one salivates all the cam shots of anamazing event the placing of the ad on the cam page says it all for prosperity.

While it lifts the spirits to see all this snow nuking down after such a taxing summer full of burnt koalas and human misery and then followed by the uncomfortable period of enforced confinement which impinges upon our sanity.
However
in some ways it could be considered fool's gold and the unkindest cut of all :-0 !

It has snowed hard all day. Could be 50 on the ground, apparently Family Run gauge is reading 62 and that’s the one that counts most.
Nice afternoon of home schooling in which we ditched the books to climb waterfalls. The snow was truly awful, bunching up on our pattern bases until each ski weighed more than 20kg. After a while we had to ditch them.
Interesting that the amphitheatre of Carmichael obviously provided a significant firebreak for DP. The Falls were working as their very own snowmaking machine, and it was all very pretty.
And it didn't even get given a name. Something starting with C maybe or is that forbidden?
Judging by the radar.. It aint gonna let up soon.. Buller will be buried tomorrow!

Obviously VIC have done the best out of this system so far.
Perisher got 15cm overnight and around 10-15 of porridge today according to my sauces.
Nothing like the figures in the BOM range.
Looks to be drying out for NSW as well.
BOM Satellite loop suggests there is more to come yet so perhaps NSW will pick up some decent white love?
Out of season ,doesnt meet criteria to be named as its only good for pre season stoke and ground cooling. JMO
The SW rain shadow. You could see it in action on the enhanced infrared sat loop all day. Its as thought the BOM guys don't understand our mountains that well. Big totals at Buller and Baw Baw as always from this direction. I wanted to believe the BOM totals for today but it was adding up in the cam pics.
Note - Mt Ginini gauge ticked over alot today because its far enough north to be out of the shadow.
Probably needed another 20cm to make the inbounds terrain proper skiable. Main range will be solid though so i'm holding off for some fine weather boiler plate and camping maybe next weekend.
If i lived closer i'd be down there in the morning because another 10cm is definitely on the card tonight.
BOM radar is showing more precipitation coming in over Victoria and Southern NSW.
This should fall as snow in the usual locations.
The vic radar showing not just showers, but proper rain coming in from SW.. If that holds to the hills.. then.. Pheww..Looks like another 10-15cm since the previous table-wipe, when it was a little over 30cm deep. And still coming down.

agree. though i see falling temps west of Syd and rain on the radar, fingers crossed for a white cover in the morning over Shooters Hill and Blackheath. and i observe a car in the garage with a full charge. the heartbreak is a good name
