Showers coming through Prahran, 10 deg, radar still looks nice.
Yeah I got drenched locking the security door and walking to the car!
Worth a look tmrw. More like 25-30 up the top and easily 20cm in the village when I left. Good day. Snow at Tanjil Bren on the way up and all the way to the turn off on the way back down.
Yeh, that's the kind of result I expected for the little mountain. Could get another 10 overnight.
9.1 in Melb and dropping. Lake mountain cam looks enticing with the Guns on and snow piling up? Thinking of heading up tomo. Anyone know if resort entry will be required? And what about chains on AWD (I do have them) I hope to make some observations from there tomo!
I was the only person there for a slide, certainly raised a few eyebrows. The mountain staff were stressing about getting everything setup in time for opening, apparently the snow was making life difficult... Who'd have thunk it.
Happens every resort every year.
Love this pic.
-1C in Canberra just after 8pm. Going to be a cold ride to work in the morning.
Road on the way back down from Bawbs. About 3pm.
Australia - the only country where the staff complain about having snow at the start of the ski season!
... I'm sure the resort managements won't be upset? Nor most businesses
Stay on topic.
Commercially - there's no snow like early snow.
On topic - few showers still rolling through. Far from constant rain but sharp little bursts.
Just dipping below zero here now, max of 6 at 2.00 pm.
Thinking a big frost in the morning.
Gotta luv winter
I observe a lot of hype...
Also had a story on ABC
Back on topic: Was caught in a heavy shower (total 10-15 mins duration) in Caulfield, Melb at around 7:15 pm. There are still a few showers on the radar over The burbs and bay (heading NNE to hills) with the City temp at 8.3C.
Cheers for that, mick chopps, will definitely head up as it looks fantastic. Any grooming done up there? Did you need to clear any trees or fit chains?
I observe many wonderful beautiful pics
I dips me lid to the photographers and the posterers
I'll be heading up in an AWD tomorrow, with chains if necessary (hopefully not needed). Fingers crossed for a smooth trip up.
No grooming yesterday, suspect that'll come later in the week. Chains were fitting to everything (although I did sneak up and down without them) and there were a couple of 2WD's off the side without them on the way up. They hadn't cleared the carpark so you'd need them for that alone. A couple of small trees down but only half across the road so no problem to get around.
You'll need them. I snuck up without them in the Xtrail in 4WD mode. Up was no problem but down was a slow trip with hill descent mode engaged all the way the turn off.
Perisher looking good for front valley, smigs jbar land, mid-quad (goats) and Blue Cow at least for this weekend. Zali's and Towers would probably be skiable but access limited.
Good chilly morning inland. Reached -2.5 at the bo. (Dubbo that is).
-7.6 at cooma airport
That's apparent ^^^ It was 2c when I drove past half an hour ago. Not even a frost this morning. Bit of a letdown really. Still lots of snow in my yard though
Yeah weird for Cooma
colder places around
I missed that, thanks. I didn't check my thermometer this morning. Still a patch of snow on the ground for me as well.
Had some heavy falls during the night last night, showers only but moderate rain rate in them, had one heavy downpoor at about 10-11pm which must have had some hail in it by the sounds of it.
Light showers this morning on my drive to work (To soft for the bike again).
Looks like it will be a cold gloomy winters day with little measurable rainfall.
"Thredbo is opening early!
Get the skis and boards out, because Friday Flat will be open for business, this Friday.
With the favourable snowmaking conditions we have forecast for the remainder of the week it's looking likely that The Cruiser area will be open for Saturday, with the possibility of Highnoon opening up too!
Stay tuned for any updates - It's looking like it will be a
great long weekend! I like it."
From their FB. Matching Perisher
I observe Mt Kosci is coated:
IMO this is only the start of the Hyperbole
Not really a observation.., but those faces are loaded.
Yeah, but Friday Flat is hardly Front Valley is it? plus it'll turn to slop down there by lunchtime Friday with the warmer temps. An equal option would be opening Merritts for Friday.......Of course Thredbos marketing department couldn't let Perisher get the jump on them could they.....
I observe though that the competitiveness between the two only helps out the punter at the end of the day. More terrain open anywhere the better...
While flying to Melbourne this morning I got some good views of the Main Range...
(they were taken with my iPhone 5S so the quality is not great)
I think this is Mount Hotham, not sure though. I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong...
Buller I think you'll find.
I might be wrong also, but i think thats Mt Buller with Mt Stirling to the left of the 1st shot
That's what I was thinking. Defs not Hotham though.
I can already see dbski in the chutes.
I'm trying to get a handle on the top pics.
Actually wouldn't be to much further up in the top right hand corner of the 1st Buller shot
I thought he was flying to Melbourne?
Thanks for the correction
I've never been to any of the Victorian resorts so I'm not too familiar with them. I'll get there one day though...
@DenSki can I repost one or two of those pics on social media with a credit to you?
