Location? --- THredbo?
One of the more impressive weather maps I've seen for the SE- every type of front imaginable. How's the wrap around from the tropics!
Reminds me of living in Ireland. Centre of big low pressure system's would often pass right over.
Tricky for surfing- offshore sideshow onshore offshore again in the -same day!
Get your fill today @mick chopps
Gloopy by tonight imo
Nice big blob heading your way too.
25-30cm at Hotham, been skiing since dawn, not bad conditions. Sticking to southern slopes for now.
That's going straight to the virtual weather pool room.
XC DP this morning
Skew-T has Melbourne FL around 1600m, but there's still plenty of cold air to the west with Mount Gambier's FL around 1450m. Drying out a bit though.
Some unstable layers around (Wagga/Nowra)
Beautiful Falls. Wish I was there.
Sorry, bad link:
Compared with earlier cam view, looks like it's staring to warm up.
Big D cam at Hotham
A little bit, still feels cold though. Snow is holding up
You wish! Falls Creek just above the Falls Express
FB hurts, friends are smashing it at Thredbo atm. Poor old ski patrol will be tearing their hair out.
Plenty of cold and moisture being pulled in. Lots left to come yet. IMO.
Selwyn. Sep. 30 . After the season has closed :
25cm reported on Buller. Biggest single-day fall for Buller this season, perhaps?
Big corn harvest coming up. Might be a few folks wishing they had skins in the next couple of weeks.
Looks like a lot more than 12cm and the AWS had 30mm+ after it started snowing. My calculations would have it close to 25cm already. Thoughts?
Perisher AWS is notoriously a sponge, take no notice of QTY IMO. 12-15cm at time of report looks about right to me.
Big flakes on Perisher cams again, including South perisher. Marginal temps hanging in there for now.
I will ski more in October this year than September.
Was a little heavy but abundant thismorning. Taking kids BC was challenging.
I observe I am about to commence re-scheduling my responsibilities for next weekend.
Will be cashing in on a few of those favours "owed " to me and if necessary will put a couple on "credit "
Daddy powered rope tow.
...if the sun happens to appear
I also observe that BP Glenrowan northbound is a freaking zoo today.
So the AFL public holiday doing its job, then.
Zooming in there's so much going on here with some anti-clockwise action , .
Not sure how to describe it technically.
Surface level winds btw.
Somewhat stable pressure within the cell.
BOM has plotted 4 low pressure points all within a few hPa of each other so there's some light meandering/shared winds in Bass Strait it seems.
Interesting to observe it dissipate at the 1000 and it's not present at 850.
May be some involvement with friction / topography.
Would struggle to find light winds aloft in a system like this one. Those signals @1000mb suggest 10km/h... Light and stable at MSL.
Dumping at Hotham now, great skiing now, moved over to Avy Gully and surrounds now
Great timing with the pow though.
Where was that at Hotham?
I observe a lot of water in NE Vic. Kiewa has broken its banks in Wodonga.
Been that way most of winter..the picnic table and chairs have mostly been a gross pollutant trap.
Lake Hume, wow.
That's the ticket!
My favourite little slack pocket solo.
From Tony Harro's Insta, (Mt Buller)...
"Yes, one of the best snowfalls all season and it's still dumping. This was taken 5 hours ago and it hasn't stopped, and there's more higher on the Mountain."
I can confirm copious amounts of snow at Perisher - steady falls all day. Very wintry
Massive wind gust just hit here in Sydney, blowing a gale but sunny. Wind got a bit of bite to it
God its cold in Sydney today 15 degrees and windy as in Northern Beaches
I observe that THIS is August weather....
Supertrail this morning. Just got in after going hard since 8.30am. Very windy and hard conditions up top but in the struggle between pleasure and pain we kept opting for just one more run!
Started at 730 from dead horse with maybe 30 of fresh a km or so up and still puking its tits out. Just got back to the car after two binding strap failures in one sitting. Thank pow gods for volle straps. Couple of the lads still out. Heavey dnow but rooster tails are plentiful.
