It wouldn't be an obs thread if it didn't kick off with a Himawari8 Sat grab. Two winter system spanning two coasts - An uncommon occurrence but stranger things have happened in 2020. Watch the comma of cold air (SW of Tassie) head northward today.
Quite balmy on the Jindy North Shore with a rising breeze in Thredbo. The clouds indicate a change coming through.
Mild in Jindabyne. High cloud with dark bottoms drifting across from the west in light winds. Sun feels like it is doing a bit of heating at the surface. Feels like the prelude to a pretty decent winter storm.
You can see on the satelite, that currently, over the Alps is being affected by the Northern Air being draw in by the Low. Should switch over to that southern feed, and temps drop, as the Low gets closer.
Windy AF here at the top of Pleasant Valley and Cold to the core. Fire is now roaring!! Bring it on!!
In your case, change "imo" to "I am desperate for it to snow at my place" Got as low as 3.9C at Maatsuyker Island (140m) at 3pm this afternoon under heavy showers - so already pretty cold. The real cold should begin to sweep through western Tas in the next couple of hours and progressively get colder into the morning. Edit: BOM has updated its forecast for the Tasmanian Western District: Tuesday 4 August Partly cloudy. Areas of morning frost. High (70%) chance of showers or snow, most likely in the afternoon and evening. Possible hail. Light winds becoming southerly 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day then tending south to southwesterly 25 to 40 km/h in the evening. Overnight temperatures falling to between minus 5 and zero with daytime temperatures reaching between 3 and 8. ie. snow to sea level!! also now snow down to 100m for Hobart.
Yeah that’s getting cold down at that altitude! Bloody oath sm7 I’m hanging (maybe even a FROTH) to see a few flakes at my place, I love it the kids love it!! going to enjoy watching this one come through! Probably coldest system to pass through in some time. currently 9c here
Properly cold and raining heavily in Daylesford BOM saying 5.2 right now hoping to wake up to a white front porch
Portable C AWS in Tassie is 25m asl and 2.6 degrees with precip. Must be snow to about 300m there with maybe a wintry mix at sea level?
Mount William down to –0.1° C with 1.4 mm in the gauge…the Grampians are gonna get absolutely throttled by this beast. What I'm also liking is the more WSW direction, as opposed to plain old SW—perfect for a direct hit on the GDR.
I’d say it would be close at luncheon hill north west corner of tas, currently sitting on 1.8c @145m asl
Pretty windy from around midnight ,was some rice pellet falling on the wind but now fine clear stuff around the Barry Way.
Moderate rain in Thredbo Village at the moment. Could someone please lower the temperature a bit more.
Buller now at -4.4 degrees. Looks like a dusting, maybe a cm or two, in the village square from the cam.
Why is it wrong to correctly point out the above picture is not from yesterday, but is several years old? Does being a member on this forum for 16 years not count for anything ?
0.5c with a cover of snow on the ground here in the strezleckis. Probably about 1cm maybe a little more
5cm is generous here at Smiggs this morning. It appears to only have just dropped below freezing (-0.2) here now. Going to be a fun day but windy here so can’t imagine it is any better up at Perisher.
