3c up here this morning with a couple of heavy sleety showers passing through at about 5am.
Had to go to Melbourne today for a work meeting, so missed probably the biggest day of the year
However, this afternoon flying back in to Canberra we came quite low over the Brindabellas. It was cloudy, but you could see a fair bit between the clouds. I was surprised by both the amount of snow, and the geographic extent. It covered a wide region, not just the peaks, but lots of the flatter bits, and populated areas
It was absolutely beautiful. The clouds were fluffy, with the golden afternoon sun on them, and the snow covered scenery underneath. I tried to take a few pics, but they didn't capture it so well
Fair bit of wind around those cars.
That's for sure.
Digging out cars is a fun novelty... First time.
After ten days every morning in Hokkaido.
Not so much
Mine's gonna be fun to get out.
Just wait till it rains. ..
I swear one of those ok the first photo looks like an Aston Martin... That'll be a handful
Porsche Cayenne IMO
As long as you take your time... Would be easy.
Clear track out.
Drive twenty metres.
Yes been the same almost forever.. though I would say even if I had an AWD or 4wd I would still carry a pair in case
Nice POW today , found a pile in a corner today waist deep.. very nice , good 40 across the whole place .pv
The flat place is certainly skiing very well. Spoke to a mate who skis the flat and the slightly steeper place , but he said before this fall the slightly steep place was very poor and not worth a visit. Lol
You are not a flat earther as well ?
Stay on topic.
Weather observations only.
One from Hotham
Correct, bluff spur hut cam
Great Day at Gotham today. Best lee side stashes out at Orchard. Just over boot deep amongst the trees below One Tree. Blue ribbon skied better today with all ice humps covered and nice soft bumps all the way down. Not as light as Orchard way. Still a bit brutal up top, but once you dropped down, not too bad. Best run of the day? Mary’s ! Soft steepness just the way we like. And the ski back along the creek all soft
Goodness too. Tonight’s walk to Zirkys just an apparent minus 13. Nothing a warm gluwein sorted ! And a trout !
Wind smashing through thredbo village atm.
Looks well snowed in... should have claimed force majeure.... sorry cant leave must go ski some more
I hate to see my car Sunday ! Digging out in minus 10 ?
For extra points make it a haiku
You found waist deep 'powder' last week after '20cm' of 'POW' at PV as well. You'd make a killing as a guide..
And where else can you ride amongst the gumtrees, without a doubt, this country is the best place in the world
Thredbo this morning.
@telecrag after 30cm
Yep that is correct Blacky..
All wind blown stashes , what’s better . It’s all skiable
We have a 10 ft pile behind our lodge and 5ft deep between cars , it’s great
Are you offering a job?
Smiggs seems to be still snowing . Blowing a fair gale again so mor windblown for Blacky?
On the plus side saw 1.1 m on therasure pole in interceptor today..
I would like to observe something that is not powder and making me jealous and that is steady R$/n in Ferntree gully and the Melbourne radar lighting up
It's Buller... I predict it won't be long. No wait, this is the observation thread...
Looking fantastic again
Snowing at Buller again.
My day at Buller precisely like yours. Very accurate summary! We took an hour to dry off in kopflers over a few peroni’s... pick of the day was freshies off wombat right in the trees, 6 laps got the job done ✅
Lighting up even more now, looks amaze.
Aaaand it’s puking. Big flakes.
Up tomorrow night til Sunday. Stoked!!
Decided to ski Thur/Sat/Sun. Friday pub day with the forecast wind
Yup. I don't like the word blizzard as it gets misused so often, but it's a blizzard outside right now.
Magnificent conditions at the moment
.....and I had a knee reconstruction late May
Especially with arguably the most beautiful trees to grace an alpine environment, snow covered or not!
and looking like it may continue for a bit
And a bit more.
I observe I will probably have to fit chains tonight @Buller for the first time in about 10 years!!
After missing out for the last couple of weeks, LM has been getting some love over the last 48 hours 20cm so far.
And effing heaps more over the next little bit. LM about to get some of the heaviest stuff that’s showing on the radar, hopefully temps hold.
Buller is reporting another 20cm overnight. Hotham now over 1.5m natural snow depth.
I observe there is heavy precipitation over Nth Central Vic still. A lot more in this one yet. Hopefully temps stay low...
Hoth reporting 16cm and still nuking up there. Radar is the goods for another few hours yet.
Falls reporting 23cm.
Yep pumping down at hotham. Blowing everywhere
Yesterday was the best snow I've had in resort. Big face shots and here's a little taste..
I observe the kids' snow fort is almost buried. Snow still falling in PV and blowing pretty hard.
