Team Bears been really "run down"....had flu for a week .... Now back at work...sunny morning western melb suburbs.light breeze a little cloud here and there....stuff all rain in preceding days ...not that we can recall with great clarity what has been happening!
Appears ppt on live Merritts Cam...sorry that's not Perisher.....but it's falling like rocks....possibly sago or ice pellets....cannot see water blobs on Cam lens though. Moderator will need to make a new thread ....I too stuffed....I will check out temps soon.
BOM forecasts 5-15 mm moisture today - rain or snow this morning & turning to snow this arvo. Fingers crossed we've dodged another bullet @ Perisher & it only snows today. Great updates BTW
Drove down from Wollongong to Perisher this morning and there was light rain the whole way. Turned to snow just past Wilsons valley and was coming down with almost no wind
Just posted in the old thread sorry. Still snowing in PV. Tables say 2-3cm accumulated. Temps must be marginal as it's pretty wet
A big blob of moisture is observed on radar sitting over Canberra...... Wilson Valley appears to be in no mans land neither snow nor rain....but looks cold miserable and moist! Some form of ppt certainly visible....
Ah the good ol' Sheep Graziers warning - this used to be the old faithful reliant when trying to determine if it was going to dump! They only issue these when there's a decent looking fall on the cards so we get a surprise little drop today
That is is so true. When I grew up in Canberra in the stone age with no internet (the 1980s), we had so few indicators of whether it was going to snow or not. This was one of them.
Just drove back from Perisher. Temps very flat as 0c up top and still 1c at Wilson's. Snow transitioned at Wilson's but sticking above that. Any loss with melt over the weekend in NSW recovered now above 1600m
A good 2-3 cm across PV from the fall earlier this morning but wet snow since hasn't accumulated a great deal. Infinitely better than clear but gear is soaked by lunchtime. Amusing observing all the drenched gear arriving @ Sundeck for lunch. Snow appears set in and all being well as temps drop later today we will be yodelling away tomorrow.
Hope you make some room for them at Bullocks Flat Terminal....they have probably all wondered over for a coffee and doughnuts!
I am enjoying observing the rain outside here in Canberra (a rarity in recent months), and snow settling and falling steadily at Guthega on Perisher's highly addictive live "Blue Cow and Guthega" camera.
Lovely snow falling by the looks of the thredbo live cams as well. The rains have finally properly arrived in Sydney.
Has snowed all day here at PV. Fairly heavily for an hot or so at lunch time. Soaking wet. Time for a JD
I observe a very atypical chart for NSW dumpage I also observe that Victorian skiers right now must be going...
Yep also when i worked at Thredbo and we got this faxed through!! We had the internet but could only access the intraweb and thredbo page - so this combined with watching the barometer drop, equaled funs times at work!
Measured 7cm accumulation at 1800m perisher at 2:00pm. Heavy wet snow, but no r***. Gear saturated. Snow level around 1400m. Unusual in that it had been snowing all day with virtually no wind
That band dropped temps in Sydney by 4'C when it hit. Probably the coolest temps for the afternoon so far this year.
These kinds of systems seldom bring good news to Vic, much better with them living out East. Definitely a Thredbo special.
Trying to very lightly snow all day today at Falls. not enough to stick to the cars but at least it wasn't r**n. Came down quite solidly for a few minutes as I packed up the car then stopped as I drove down the hill.
I'd say Thredbo was about the same at 1:30 when we retreated. @telecrag and I both thought well over 5 but not quite 10cm. Not sure how good a measure @telecrag is given his UFO system of measurement and the fact he his googles resemble some fancy fish tank with water between the lenses.
i observe ptex sales going through the roof in mansfield after a solid day of core shots........ all in all a fun day
Ended up with 10mm in my gauge in North Canberra and its currently 5.3c pretty sure there is snow up on the higher parts of the Brindies. Might got for a drive up there tomorrow in the Landcruiser.
I observe that the BOM had issued a gale warning for Illawarra last night and today up to 40kts. It didn't come. I'm currently sitting at Shellharbour enjoying a beautiful wind free(slight westerly) morning.
