Severe Weather Warning for DESTRUCTIVE WINDS
For people in parts of Central, East Gippsland, South West, North Central, North East and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts.
Issued at 10:55 am Tuesday, 3 July 2018.
A deep low pressure system and associated cold front south of Western Australia is forecast to move over the Bight later today then then to slide away to the southeast of Victoria during Wednesday.
DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 100 km/h are expected to develop across elevated parts of western Victoria during the early hours of Wednesday then extend throughout the remainder of the warning area during Wednesday morning.
DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts of in excess of 125 km/h are forecast to develop across elevated areas (above 1200 metres) of eastern Victoria during Wednesday morning.
Winds are expected to ease late Wednesday.
I observe Perth did well.
Nearly 35mm out of the trough. Showers prevailing today with another front due tomorrow AM.
Probably settle on 50-60mm once all said and done. Well-over a third of their July average in half a week.

Windy for sure, felt it on the bike. On the plus side, it was warm enough to ditch the longs and go back to the shorts.

I observe similar temps at Moonbah.
At Perisher.... the wind was up from the get go this morning on the Mt P side of the hill and blowing plenty of snow into the Lee side of the mountain. A ‘typical Mt P special!!
Also observed some interesting cloud around noonish......

Went for a ski, was windy and otherwise meh.
And then when I go back in, the sun comes out.
can't win with this mountain (Buller).....
It's probably good to keep it low key until Saturday, when the party starts.

We’re observing first decent blow of the season, ground isn’t even damp and the first delivery of firewood has arrived, well fallen into the yard.
Still warm in Melbourne, 16c presently (8:30pm). Heaters and jumpers are off.
12c here at 6pm no wind so I made the most of it and cracked out the bbq and cooked up some steaks!! Very pleasant for July!
A great visual example of adiabatic cooling - a tell tale sign of either winds increasing or dew point lowering, given you're on different ends of the alps.

The wind basically closed Buller except for Skyline and Bourke St. So fast that it blew you down the slope, going up the top of Wombat was very intense.
Scotts, Ruined and Eagle now on hold at Falls
Pollies, it creates a bubble, and the wind goes over the top.
