I went up to XC Ski at Falls Ck. on 5/8/18.
.It was foggy and very windy when we arrived at just after 10 am. The sun came out but the snow was very soft and sludgy and softened even further as the day progressed. The wind over the dam wall was fierce. My friends and I skied up Roper 's aquaduct and back to Very Windy corner after lunch . I did a perfect S shaped turn coming down from the dam wall aquaduct into the Nordic bowl.I skied on skinny skis and did not crash once.:)
My friends were trying out XC skiing as newbies and had a lesson at the Nordic bowl in the morning. They were skiing on dodgy rental gear from off the Mountain, NNN BC boots and skis. I swapped with them to try out the ancient rental Karhu BC XC skis and frankly I would have put them in the rubbish bin if they were mine.
They were DEAD. Camber, flex, pattern, edges all GONE, defunct....Throw them away !!
They tried my springy light Fischer skinny skis with NNN BC bindings and noticed a difference immediately.
I think I may have converted them from snow shoes but until they get the diagonal stride really flowing they won't experience the energy efficiency of XC skiing.
