Weird in Jindy, blowing a gale all night, but was sunny this morning. Getting spindrift now... snow on the perisher and Charlotte cams, too much cloud to see Thredbo. I can't see past Snowline and even that closes in at times.
Looking the goods with the main moisture band due to hit the mountains. Wish it would slow up but glad to see we got the snow this early (thought it might be r&!#) Will be interesting to see the results by the end of today. Tommorow is going to be very white. Only 5 weeks to go. Hope this is the start of good things to come.
Jees i'm slow. Only just worked your name out. This looks great. First time this year the wettest part of the system is bringing snow instead of rain. Snow already settling at 1600 metres in NSW and the cold stuff hasn't hit yet. Looks like a base starter for up high - especially on the main range. Once the grass and vegetation gets covered we'll start to see more snow drifting and some serious accumulation on the lee slopes.
Well it was sunny in Canberra this morning... Had breakfast on the balcony... Nasty now, cold, cloudy and blowing... leaves everywhere... Good stuff!
Yes settling nicely on the road in thredbo and starting to snow half way to jindabyne.... Hmmmmm it all seems a bit early, Ahh heck ( )
Nice one top rock. Bloody strong NW winds in Sydney in the last hour. I'm excited. Thinking i may be sick on tuesday - recommended medicine - day trip for a slide.
Yeh both Friday Flat and the cam at the bottom of Kosciusko Express are showing the snow puking down!
There are pretty consistant bands of precipitation moving accross victoria, so this should continue for quite a while (Will Update)
Yes TR it is early but 1960 1962 and 1968 all had over a metre on the ground by mid may and they were great seasons - lets hope for a repeat
It was like that yesterday in Jindy. I went for a walk around the lake wearing a T shirt and sweating.... an hour after I got home I had to dig out the fleeces!!!
Well, this IS a nice system... A fair bit of rain in Canberra which means that there must be quite a bit in the hills (rainshadow) ... now 10 degrees and raining
- 0 at lookout hill makes me 9.5 in the city at the moment with that line of cells coming thru is also should have gone up this weekend
No drama in Hobart today - Overcast, wind light to calm and now SW'ly. First of the showers over the Mountain right now; 11.4C currently, after a high of 14.9C Looking north as of 4pm
Just got back from Falls. Heavy snow, down to below the Park entrance. About 10 cm at least had settled.
Just got back from a drive up to perisher...well only made it as far sponars lodge driving my crummydore. There would have been about 10cm of snow on the road which made for a hairy drive. On my way back down a snow plough was driving up clearing snow off the road.Would have taken some great pic's if the bloody batteries in my camera hadn't died as soon as i turned it on.
Front finally hitting Sydney now. Bit of rain which'll probly last, oh, about three mins, and first few blasts of colder air. Geez it was warm today. And dusty too. You Victorians out there have been getting plenty with all these fronts in April (and now May) have no idea how these Westerly systems deliver nothing but wind to the East Coast. Looks like Canberra got bugger all rain too (again). Oh, and as predicted, rain stopped in the time it took me to write this message.
that's good news bb. Bom says Canberra only got 4.8. More, as you know, is needed. BTW, does yr name reflect yr resort preference? If so, what are you doing in Canberra? And where are ya gonna board this year? weather weather weather weather (that bit was for moderators)
Down to 1 degree at Cooma Airport now with precipitation accumulating. Still precipitation accumulating steadily at Cabrumurra and Mt Ginini indicating theres still plenty falling in NSW. And the good thing is its still coming in from the west.
Oh man its -5.4 at Hotham, hope it keeps snowing. The rain radars seem to indicate nothing at all, but who knows!
Probably right cos it'd freeze together more/melt slower... but lets just hope this possibly dry snow is an indicator of things to come
Been about 5mm dropped on Mt William since the temp dropped below freezing. Probably a nice dusting up top of the Grampians..
There was close to 10 cm on the car when I left Thredbo at 4.30 pm yesterday. Saw a car arriving in Jindy this morning - look like around 20cm on the bonnet.
