5cm at most.
Its blisteringly cold at Hotham (and the other mountains) and the little moisture over Melbourne is headed south
Good call though POW! How could you tell in this particular situation? is there some kind of long-range radar you check? Because I was trying to check radars further away but Adelaide is too far, and theres nothing out to sea from what I could tell (south of great ocean road-way)!
Nah, but you can see the isolated colder cells comming through at the moment, they are carrying mod-heavy falls, almost like compressed cells you see over summer. These become somewhat more widespread over the alps due to orographic lift.
After these condensed showers pass through, theres next to nothing left but isolated showers left in a system (which can often be drizzle/sleet or a light fall).
Nothing much left in the system now.
Hotham has had 4mm of precip since 9am... Looks to be still falling aswell.
looks like the vic resorts done better this time around
nice accumulation on the seats in the second photo from Falls....
What is the call on this next front tomorrow night?
Looks as though we will get the edge of it but does not appear to be much moisture. Fours week is a long wait......
From what I can figure out, MLASP is showing a bit of moisture comming through Tuesday night and into Wednesday (about 10-15mm at best) for southern Vic. GFS and GASP not so optimistic (about5mm worth). I think the main problem will be the giant high parked right on top of us, but (I think) the airmass will still be cold enough for snow around 1500m. The Isobars are quite conjested, so it'll be a strong SW anyway!
Snow forecast down to 500 metres in Tasmania tomorrow night but drying up preety quickly after that
Its interesting you say that casue i was think the same thing, a front should brush the alps and i think will trigger some snow showers, i think it will clear quickly casuse of that big high next to it though, but still looking at 5cm hear. The temps over the next couple of days should remain cold thanks to the cold airmass. so....
Unless it rains abit the snow will hang around for a few days yet...the nights in particular are going to be quite cold.
rain on the way tonight and into tomorrow.
ONly down low....
Looks like its bouncing back and forth either side of zero every day/night this week. Whats staying around will be boilerplate by the end of the week (and hopefully therefore a nice base though)..
M-HD - you would be correct. shouldnt have opened my mouth before i checked the charts. should probably go in a new thread though, dont u think?
are you serious some very minimal amounts of this snow will stick out to form a base??
above 1900m, yes.
Wish i had some photos from where i skied yesterday. There was more snow there than buller sees in a good year.
