A becoming blowy period before next system.
Stay on topic!
warm at Perisher
The maze at FC this morning. Firm crust and deep snow if you went off the beaten track. Definitely needed the wax to power through it
Yeah a warm old day at Perisher but the snow remained mostly dry-ish. A lot of crust around the place, but the groomers were good. I did observe the longest queue for a t-bar i've ever seen at Blue Calf, Guthega in the morning - I think all the peeps that dislike wind and fresh snow and had been in hibernation the last 3 days were unleashed on the resort. Good to see every lift open though!
I observe strange radar thing around Hobart
Driving up the Melba
A bit cloudy.
Nice bit of moisture currently ahead and behind the next band of frontogenisis.
Buller looks absolutely caked from Mansfield.
Gee's she's NW.
That looks brutal
Flying into Perth tonight from melbs. The parentals tell me it is blowing a gale, storming and wet. Should be a fun flight I hope
It's a big one
This morning I observed a beautiful sunrise which was a sign of things to come at Mt Buller. I also observed that the skies were so blue, the skiing so good, and cars buried so deep that I acted upon the advice of several people here and ditched the idiotic idea of digging out the car, and went skiing again instead. I observe that I will spend an additional night here in my lodge and have bought emergency rations for dinner. I observe I am now enjoying the cosy fire with a glass of wine after a terrific day’s skiing.
Nice lenticular-ish clouds this morning..
Weather warning on bom for this weekend. High winds a gusts up to 110km/h.
This is going to make the camping fun.
Wind is fearfully strong this morning in Melb ....a trip to western subs in sustained strong winds.
Not sure of forecast for Island Bend ...but it won’t be fun if you encounter this up there!
Very strong in Melbourne. Had a few dodgy moments on the bike.
Not to mention very mild, and understandably with the NW.
Perf has it's coldest morning of the year
Howling at Buller, most lifts on wind hold.
Looks to be howling at Perisher...but not many lifts on hold
Nice to see you back on the forums mate
Sure was cold, 4 at the parentals place down by the beach in South Freo. Getting off the plane I'm used to a wall of heat but it was cold with a real chill in the air at 11:30pm. Wet too, rained all the drive to their place
Wind was so strong at home this morning it sucked one of the evaporative cooler ceiling vents back up into the duct.
Baw Baw has shut up shop.
All lifts on wind hold
But they are all surface lifts?
They do have the problem of branches falling over them though. I wouldn't want to be driving up Baw Baw road, it's exactly the conditions trees fall across the road.
Corker of a day yesterday on the Main Range. Below is taken from Ramshead Trig Point.
Slight 1-2cm crust from Wednesday night’s short freeze thaw, but unbelievable shin deep powder below.
Nil wind, would be another story up there right now though.
90-100cm in leeward slopes, all from Monday/Tuesday’s fall.
Stalls Creek has stalled....wind hold on all but Summit.
Team Bears had to drive up to Kyneton .....it is not pleasant on the highway...possibly the strongest sustained velocity we have encountered.
Hotham Rd must be a ball breaker atm.
Hi all - new here, and going "snow" for the first time. I've hike Kosi NP a bit in summer, but this time I'm camping at Island Bend with someone more experienced in the white stuff. Any observations / forecasts from the more experienced here would be greatly appreciated. Heading up tonight.
The obs from Kilmore Gap are a little scary!
Looks like it’s been averaging 50km/hr approx from Nth since mid night!
Not trying to bad mouth KNP for a moment.....BUT ...it’s a tad windy ....I think at weekend..it may not be pleasant ....it may be one hell of an experience though!
The predictions thread will more than likely answer your question!
Thanks Claude. I'll stop OT now
No, go right ahead. You may even be able to use the Grumpy Cat meme.
Wind blown is fierce on the Basin live.
Rainbows and lollipops in Diggings camp ground for now. Gentle 10-15 knot gusts.
Might even use my snatch strap to a tie things off... perhaps my car.
They don't call it Blowhard for nothing that's for sure!!
I observe the NW slide on the Satelite looks oddly similar to last Friday evening’s system. Glad it’s got more cold air this time around.
And I observe that it's a Polar vortex, with 2 embedded Black runs :-o
News just in: Windy Wollongong isn't that windy today @Donzah
Looks like plenty of tracks to the bottom right of your photo there, looks good!
Calm, sumny and warm here at Island Bend atm. Friday nights often see the Yahoo's, worse on Sat nights. Blowy is the new normal so I hope your mate knows how to set up for extreme winds and possibly snow tomorrow. Bottom camp is quite busy atm.
More moisture to I think.
Winds swinging around to the SW through western costal Victoria
Mt William still warm, over 8C, but I expect that will drop now.
So wind is pretty mild at diggings however up the hill is a different story. Kosi and cruiser on wind hold.
Wind has eased right off in Melb outer east.
