And it begins at Falls Creek
Temp has dropped 3.2 degrees in 30 minutes at Strahan Tas - cold front approaching.
Looks like a fist of Fury !
The new staff accommodation looks nice .....
Still sunny in Jindy. Breeze picking up a little.
Yep. It’s a long way off at the minute....
Will come from this direction. The far small hill left of top centre is normally snow capped in winter. Let’s see how it looks in 24 hours.
Was very surprised to see snow still on the main range as I passed the South Cooma speed trap today. I may have missed references to such in earlier posts, but yes there is already quite a bit sticking around after recent falls and unless we get a major rain and a drastic upward change in temps in the coming week or so - we have our first permanent snow on the Alps for winter 2018 - with hopefully blizzards more to come in the next few days and more again later next week.
Stuff work - I'm driving up to have a quality look - will post some pics in an hour or so.
If it's left over from last year and gets topped up now could we say it's the begginings of a glacier?
not a chance this past summer - it was all gone by Feb.
Let's see how where you are standing there looks like in 48 hrs!
Hotham 2.3C, Falls 3.5C.
Snow still from Smigs up in places. Then Main range has still got some long open areas. Sun was in a shocking position so pixs not the best.
and another angle
and on spencers slope - surely a postive >1cm is reasonable tmw. it will be a thursday and there is fresh snow around the poles. incredible how brown it is. I don't think it's been properly green since Nov. Usually it's pretty green at this time - unless there's been lots of frosts which has not been the case. it's hard dry like SE Victoria.
i was thinking more fist of Adonis,
I observe that my ears keep popping and my dog is restless here at Umina so the ECL is deepening off the coast causing the pressure to drop. I'll get up to check the actual MSLP when I finish this beer.
Wonder how the eagle chair progresses
May be no eagle this year?????
Yes, cycling home here in Wollongong and there were dogs howling. Not heard that before in my long history of riding here. Could have been a stray cat.
I imagine a few may be doing this.
Yep, Ears dont lie. Pressure has dropped from 1020 to 1015 in the last few hours here at Umina.
Someone stole my bucket list ha ha
Scroll down the page and see the pressure...
My daughter, son in law and granddaughter moving from Umina to Moonbah next week...they will catch the follow up snow falls.
Meanwhile and on track.... no change here from earlier this afternoon.... Just a bit of cloud building at dusk South of the resorts...
They posted a pic on instagram showing it ready
906hPa... now that's nice! Will that link remain live is I bookmark it?
Nice. Umina is great but getting crowded. Moonbah would be awesome. I've got an opportunity to buy acreage around Brogo. Just trying to put the pieces into place and then if I can, I'm just coastal from Cooma.
All ready to roll
Would have been sooo easy to swing it 45 degrees clockwise so the Top load split the valley between outter Y and Summit then run bottom load to the bottom of Gully. Double the vert and combine 2 chairs into 1. Overall savings over 20 years smashes the current costs.... Whats next, pay again to rebuild the Gully? Pay twice for a worse result....
I'll accept responsibility if Melb misses out...spent the last hour cleaning gutters by torch light.
Sat pic of the low pressure system. Click for larger (select sizes bottom right note full res is big ish (~7Mb at 500m / pixel) Some nice gravity waves over Melbourne area too
I saw those as the sun set. Absolutely amazing, seeing how big this thing is.
Gunna suck without the fly.
The beast from the sou’east
Has yr.no updated yet - seems stuck on web and in the app.
BOM continues to be higher than this morning's yr.no update.
Which is cause for "real" hope that we actually get a significant precipitation event.
updated for me.
increased for P
The depth to the south is awesome. If we get the full 1500klm all pushing north, then it should blow the upper level precip totals out if the water.
Next hour or so we'll cop it here in Melbourne
Pressure has stabilised off Umina at 1015.4 so the north NSW coast ECL is on its way to UnZed.
The road is clear for the big show
Just opened the stormwater drain. Incoming! Going to be so refreshing to have some rain about.
Its got a nice NW slide with pre frontal temps at 16c over Melb so should be good for snow above 1600m. Then lowering as the proper cold hits.
Can feel the cold air outside now. Has some bite - and the almost still that precedes a storm....
Mt William still quite warm. 6.6C
Probably because it's coming from the S/SW, rather than the usual from the west.
It might miss mt William
