Compared to CDWeatherboard or whatever it is called and the AW Forum, is this the only discussion forum where you can post images easily?

Big Footy has it nice too, but just not quite as nice as us.

I literally spent almost ten days fine-tuning image performance on this site almost three years ago.

I'm still not 100% happy with it, improvements are coming with XF 2.0

What's the easiest way to quote a post above me? Not yours just for future posts?

If you are not going to simply hit reply, you can quote from elsewhere on the web as well.

use the + button in the rich text editor for

    quote
    spoiler
    strikethrough
    code

Not you that's for sure. I don't know the backstory of that particular incident..

the thing you will find with this forum. Is that many hundreds of people know each other and meet up in the real world for skiing, cycling, bushwalking and sometimes.... drinking.

so there's an outrageous amount of history. It's why this is *the best* community.

yeah, I have a premium account to remove ads. I only visit for secret forum business research - and in previous years to hold a candle for Richmond - but they came good and I don't need to hold the candle anymore.

Hello folks and thankyou to Richard and all for welcoming us from Weatherzone.
I am migrating here, along with other WZ'ers due to forum closures. I am not a skier, so haven't joined this forum in the past due to such. I am Duckweather, the earthquake 'nerd' from WZ. We had/have a wonderful following - 3.28 million views over on WZ in the General Science/Earthquake forum and it is a shame that it is to come to an end. But, Richard here, has kindly suggested we could start a dedicated earthquake forum here [on ski] to share our interests in EQ's [which can include tsunami and volcanic events by degrees as they may relate sometimes to EQ's].
I am an amateur observer [pre- and post] earthquake events, and have always been interested in such since knee high to a grasshopper. My posts are non scientific - as I am no scientist - and my observations tend to rely on my observations [and intuition] of our planet's behaviours pre- and post quakes etc..
Anyway, I don't want to bore you all silly with me rambling on here. I hope to post something/s interesting soon.
    Cheers, Duckweather.

Hello from a soon to be ex-Weatherzone moderator. Have been with Weatherzone for the last 17 years, the last 13 years as a moderator.

Very, very sad that the forums are going quietly into the night...there is an ongoing discussion on Weatherzone to try and preserve the huge amount of weather history.

Ski.com forums seem to be highly regarded, and somewhat advanced technically compared to the WZ forums. The community here appears to be warm and inviting, so I'm happy to make this my new home.

I live in the tropics, and if past experience on WZ is any indication - be prepared for a HUGE influx of visitors whenever a tropical cyclone threatens populated areas.

We'll see how things pan out but if all goes well we may need a couple of ex-weather mods on the team.

That said, we got several mods with 15+ years here as well so feel free to put the boots up and relax in with a scotch.

'gawd' .. reading in this forum is sooo' much better than watching TV.

I used to be at WZ and had many years of free education and entertainment.
I believe the lack of income input into WZ forum is just another factor in its demise.
I notice you get revenue from adds and subscriptions #richard .
I like the adds' ,.... some food buys there.......so don't want to pay to have them removed.
    Subscriptions are all ad' related?
I would like to donate and pay my way to help with running costs. I don't believe free is a good thing for the longevity of a forum. Sometimes staff may have to be paid.
I noticed K2storms , USA forum as. paypal donations link. Do you take donations or what is the appropriate method to help with finances.
I prefer Mastercard payment and a system like world vision uses

No, we don't do donations. Long story short. I believe a commercial operation has to have a very particular 'social contract' in order to legitimately ask for donations and make that work. The Guardian is exhibit A as one such organisation, Wikipedia is exhibit B. On the other hand if the NY Times asked for 'donations' you just know they didn't earn it and they should just go and build a product that people want to pay for (which they did).

I'm about building a product people want to pay for. It starts at just $11 per annum and currently tops out at $33 per annum. It will remove ads, you get a dark theme, the ability to put links in your signature, upload images to Private Messages and a couple of other small features that are nice but not essential. However, before the end of the year is out, there will be more value added with what I'm working on behind the scenes. 'Ski 2020' will offer Gold members removal of ads across the whole site (cams reports) and some exclusive paywalled content - that's the plan, it's hatching slowly but surely.

Thanks #richard l get the 'gist'
A maximum contribution of $33 a year is very reasonable with a bit of time to save

Are you sure? I have a suspicion that Weatherzone is only the start of Richard's Empire Building. There are lots of other active Australian chat forums like Whirlpool, BigFooty, Railpage, Ausfish, ones for gardening, cars, sports, gamers, etc. that could be taken over and incorporated into this site.

There’s no doubt that the smaller groups are a potential target - marginal groups without a revenue base come to mind - only a matter before the fishos, 4X4, and similar groups end up being wedged between Facebook and the mainstream media.

Maybe we could bail out the ABC...
