FYI - I can't post over there. I registered late last night and still not approved, suspect I never will be because my guess is they wont be accepting any new registrations now they have declared a death date.

So I can't contribute but I'm reading with great interest the 'alternative' thread.

Well that's simple.....If those areas are not tropical, we could have a sub-forum for sub-tropical...... ;)

Agree with sentiments so far started by Mike Hauber… " Tropics and Sub Tropics " would cover a lot of us..

Our Weather Forum (now more than one forum) has been a mixture of all sorts, not just skiing/snowboarding.
I currently have a "pre-season" (snow season) thread for Japan, which I started before SUMMER in Japan.

There's also a surf thread in Weather, so just feel free to post any mix of weather threads.

Another refugee here, complete weather don’t-know-it-all, in fact know-nothing would be closer to the truth, but love reading what the WZ crew have to say and sharing weather pics and vid. We copped the rain wrapped tornado that went through Kumbia and Coolabunia in October. Look forward to seeing what Ski can come up with for us. Thanks for putting a roof over our heads.

    Ok. So.

Would it make sense to just dive in with tropical and subtropical each having its own forum off the bat?

Would there be enough activity straight up to make that work?

Feels like we could start with one each and if it works it saves splitting later (which is hard) and if it is inactive it’s much much easier to merge into one

Splitting requires careful time consuming curation, whereas merging can be done wholesale in a flash.

I reckon a tropical sub forum will also be busier in North Aus’ wet season (not until summer), so there’s that to consider as well.

Should add, currently visiting Uralla and while it’s not currently snowing it feels like it should be! Brrrrrrrrr. Apparently it was sleeting earlier.

Although it seems not many people from the tropics have registered yet, I think it would work since all Tropical Cyclone discussion, monsoon trough discussion etc would belong in that section anyway. It could get very active in summer. Sounds good to me.

Welcome newbie weather gurus. I know nothing about weather, other than when I post in the Weather Forum, rain clouds literally form over the Alpine Region.

That deluge about 2 weeks ago. Yep ........ that's mine. Commonly referred to as Astro's Abomination. I hope you needed crops watered.

    You're welcome. :D

Enjoy your time here. We mostly do, when we're not trying to strangle each other. ;)

In Summer the order will be reversed to

    Tropics
    Subtropics
    Alpine
    General

S to N, then N to S. per activity and relevance

Am looking to upgrade to Gold Subscription, but will not use PayPal as I was hacked twice in conjunction with WZ, and never heard of Stripe. What is it, and how secure. Bit hesitant to put my details out further after PP. Would like to use credit card but option N/A it seems..

Another WZ migrant here.:emoji_airplane: Had been on WZ Forums since 2005 (I was 15yrs old), so it's been a part of my life for quite some time. Thanks Richard for being accommodating to us.
Is there anyway to add our location to the user panel on the left-hand side of our posts? Particularly handy so we don't have to say our location when we post an observation :):)

So Stripe is a CC payment gateway that is as secure as it gets and is the payment gateway for things like Netflix and Spotify but unbranded. So it’s fine. But if you are not 100% comfortable just do the $6.05 three month silver option using stripe. It’s all you need for zero ads and it’s not recurring

There’s no reason why a thread can’t be created by a member for example “Bundaberg Weather” and that thread can operate independently within the weather forum

This place is a fundamentally subscription business, thus, you are the customer and our incentives are aligned to work for you and keep you as a customer.

With websites that are advertising businesses, you are a commodity resource that is free and you get bundled up as the product that is sold. Their incentives are not to look after you but to look after the customer, who is the advertiser, who just wants more and more of you and your privacy.

Once you get your head around that, you will realise that the alternatives such as AWF and CDweather were never going to be good options long term. (and you should just pay for whatever online masthead you prefer for your daily news)

All the regulars here have come to understand this, we made the switch three years ago and never looked back. No one wants it any other way now. Not even the re-birthers.
