Watching the biggest yellow moon rising from the New Longspur /Mulhauser Camp....very high up here...thought it was bush fire at first but now I see this big balll at horizontal level out towards Mt Pinnabar (or so it appears).light breeze up here cooling down now was quite warm not long ago.Still in tee shirt up here ...obviously pretty. dry in NE.Fire dying down on purpose so easy to put out in morning. This is unique camp spot cos it's so bloody high. Please note Lightning Creek Picnic Ground closed at bridge till end of July for bridge works?Freaky moon gone behind big black cloud..amazing stuff.

Thanks for the updates US. Might be heading up to DHs this weekend... what's it looking like up there at the moment? What's the best way to get up there from Mt Beauty (at night, solo?). Cheers.

No rain over night very mild up here at about 5,000feet.Wind has moderated with gentle breeze now.Misty on ridge now but incredibly warm.Bearsg read that some bushfires are burning near Crooked River,Omeo etc...but all seems to be good up in this NE corner of state.Time for breakfast .I would drive along Kiewa Valley Highway to near Wodonga and then turn right past Tallangatta,Shelley,Cooryong and overborder to Khancoben.......take care of them Roos near Shelley....This weather is brilliant for any bush work or walking.

Team Bears had a big day on Longspur .We cut through a few Log jams of moderate Diam trees that were circled when we cut through several weeks ago.Git back to diesel just before dark at new campsite at end of Long Spur Jeep Track.weather was good so we just kept working away till we reached the base of Bossiea Hill.
So all fallen logs have been removed and track simplified where possible go straight thro previous major Log falls.
    Team Bears very stuffed now.:p

So Track still very overgrown with scrub.Desperately needs brushcutting.

:pMechanic busily removing some ball joints AWS.Anyway good to sit around bludging.
Looks like Team Bears are chopping up ball joints every two years or so.Bears finding those Telstra Air Hot Spots as we indulge ourselves in Sunbury minimising out data usage.:p

Legs we like that table of yours. Looks like its got more innovation than ours...hopefully you will bang some out but make sure u immobolize them to ground some how.....Thanks Richard .....your instructions were good but trust me Team Bears not up to primary level of iPad operation

What's that table/seat retail for...wonder if it has patent...this would surely test the skills of the bears. Very cunning design....could easily relax on one should legs put one in on the little flat below Michelle's Hut.

We hear action down in the Mulhauser Camp but we are on the ridge above....whine of chain saw and some smoke from fire.Very still.Track slippery after recent rain on the steep sections.Dont stop. Engage low 1st at bottom of incline and keep momentum up.Nearly got stuck after a silly stop to change gear.

Had to back off and take it with momentum. After small recent rainfall it gets slippery very quickly.
Big fire on the go ...Bears relaxing big day ahead tomorrow...we hope it stays dry for a bit..mild up here at moment. ;)

The :thumbs:Mt Cattlemen from Mitta have done some clearing of scrub on Longspur today. They we're going to spray some blackberries across track too but it was wet.Dont complain about hoff damage and horse shit ....these guys have done a really good job today. They cleared about 1.5 km of scrub....so much better.
I have been ringing wet on multiple trips across Longspur today...will explain later.sitting by big fire it's been burning since Friday night.:eek:Still and clear sky...hopefully tomorrow is fine cos this morning was a bummer with wet undergrowth.:(

Sunday weather warm and sunny...Horseriders came back from there camp up somewhere near CleveCole and got stuck into a lot more track clearing....they have done a very good job...they say that at a later date they will clear the track over Mt Mulhauser that links up with the Jeep Track coming from Big River Rd....that little bit of Track ..actually the first bit of the Longspur Foot Trail is a shocker.
So great improvements have occurred to Longspur over this weekend...Got back to truck at 9.30pm completely stuffed but all operations completed....

As the rabble of Main Range continue to squabble.

Real work continues over the border.

Perhaps a reason why Team Bears has considerable credibility.

Cattle men seem to be pulling their weight even if nobody else was up to the challenge out this way.
So when you enjoy that Walk think of the Cattlemen ....nobody else did work out here .Not Parks Vic nor DSE. Oh Ubi did some too.....oh we do hope the form and alignment suit everybody cos (I like the slang too) if not ...too bad say Team Bears.

Oh Team Bears made an oversight in above post.

We gratefully appreciated the work of the first attack dozer that did the five kilometres of the jeep track in from Big River Rd about one month ago.

Unlike some other posters in this backcountry forum we will correct our posts if we become aware of mistakes or omissions.

So the DSE were involved in some good work....this has enabled 4x4 access to the eastern end of Long Spur...I have given them credit before but overlooked this in my last post.
So to the operator and his DSE offsider our humble apologies...

When Parks Vic organise some works up here I will be the first to trumpet their work too........

Table 23 gets a delicate quality control check from the Team.as it nears the end of its development.....Bears jumped up and down in a similar fashion to forum posters to check for structural integrity...they say the platform probably better than that of the ski forum.....Ubi gave them a warning though for making light of the ski forums problems....;)

Table passed tests ...So Bears call time out as a major storm appears to be engulfing the city.....

Table 23 in at Big River Saddle job finished in the dark.Located by little wattle trees for some shade.Across the road from here the AWT goes up the hill towards MT Wills Ridge Line....some chainsaw work was done on the first half of this track also..The whole track I walked and it is pretty easy to follow with a few fallen trees to detour around pretty easily.More work will be done on the upper half of this walking track when time permits.

Saw this sign on Big River Rd close to intersection of Snowy Log Rd.could not work out what would totally close rd so I got out to look at sign on tree.Might be exciting if your camping in Big River Saddle particularly if your trying to sleep in on Saturday morning!

Also Team Bears spent night in Mt Wills Hut so we put Saw through all Big wood out side so it fits in wood stove. We placed it all in Hut so it stays dry..very moist outside even in the carport.Mt.Wills Hut needs handsaw and spare blade if anybody is going up that way.So some wood that would otherwise be unusable because of its size/cannot be sawn smaller has been made useable. It looks a bit messy but it's better if you rock in there total wet when on AWT.cos that dry wood just so much better and less damage results in wood stove when folk try to jamb stuff into it!Hut in good condition ..windows and door all good.....flu ceiling plate missing so you can seen into ceiling above beside the outer flu.Stove working well .Oh chair shown in photo is a bit stuffed but still comfortable to sit in after walking for miles.A tiny wood shed would be the best thing but I ain't pushing for one as Forum can be highly critical of anything new....wood under floor and in carport still gets very damp and covered in snow during winter........

Team Bears spent last couple of days around Mt Wills and Big River Saddle...
The AWT from Mt Wills Jeep Track to Big River Saddle has been cleared with chainsaw. All fallen logs have been dealt with .Its in pretty good shape at moment. There were two big logs that required quite a bit of work for the Bears.

Back at Eskdale Hotel now ...pot of beer and some potato chips..beautiful. Warm sunny day...Very still...summer still continues up here.:thumbs:

The Big River Saddle and helipad is good for camping and there is abundant firewood.Having a small chainsaw is always a good idea if coming in vehicle. The six kilometres in from the Omeo Highway is suitable for 2 WD vehicles ...the road is in very good condition after logging operations.A small creek is located 300m further on.......
