My apologies if this question isn't following the etiquette of the forum but I would greatly value the advice of those here who know falls far better than I.

For a while now we have been going to falls every second year with two families of 4 (4 adults, 4 kid now aged 6-10 who have all been asking to go skiing this year after watching the olympics). We normally book a three bedroom apartment at Frueauf (or similar $) well ahead of time. 2018 isn't a scheduled ski year but we are now looking at the possibility of a 5 or 7 night late July early/mid August trip. Because it isn't the scheduled ski year some of the group need to be more mindful of budget. We haven't tried a lodge before.

I would greatly value any suggestions from those in the know about possible cost effective accommodation options that would suit 2 young families.

    Thanks

try some of the clubs that also take commercial guests. start with alpha (near frueauf, just up parallel st) which i think is the nicest for the cost.
others include chorki & cosella (near FCExpress/Halleys Comet) and schuss (parallel st).
I'm not sure if any of these have restrictions on kids. pretty sure Alpha is ok all season.

Schuss has no restrictions on kids either. DH was the booking secretary for a long time. To be honest if you are going to continue skiing regularly look at a club membership. You will save heaps and have an asset you can sell when/if you stop skiing.

Thanks for the responses. I will definitely take a look at those suggestions.

To begin with I was the skier in the group but it looks like the bug has bitten the others now :)

Red Onion is a whole chalet booking. May suit your group. They sell only 7 nights. They also book out fast so don’t hesitate if dates and budget suit.

Another vote for checking Schuss too.

I don’t think cosela does anymore.

To stay there you need to be with the member. Even over summer! But that worked out well for us.

+ 1 on Alpha. Very family friendly and good pricing. Viking lodge is also an option in the same location and pricing category, with the added advantage of ski hire on site.

Try Snowski, they are a bit more reasonable as commercial apartment buildings go. Then there's Phantom's old business, letting out private apartments. It was called Mountain Multiservice but has changed hands.....found it

Was about to repeat the advice of Apres, above. Well worth a look. Just try to find one near Falls Express so you don't have to use slow, slow oversnow transport (worth avoiding, unless you really want to be high in the village). Have already booked for this year.

We stayed at alpha in 2016 with an 18mth old little chops. No issues and the lodge manager even rescued us with a porta cot sourced from a friend after I stupidly forgot to pack ours... can’t speak highly enough of them. She charmed the pants off many of the guests!

Anyone got any experience at Les Chalets 9a? We’ve just booked for last week of July as it was basically the only 3bdrm option left for $$$ we wanted to pay.
The grandies are coming along for this trip to provide babysitting support for littlest chops and get some XCing themselves. Looking forward to putting Little Chopps into ski school for the 1st time...

I have stayed in a few of the Les Chalets apartments, not sure if I have been in 9a or not

Great location but the main feature/drawback of Les Chalets is the number of stairs you need to climb when you are staying in one of the top floor apartments.....but you will be fit after staying there

got a sweet rate on an extra night in Les Chalet 9a that hadn't been booked and was sandwiched between our stay and another booking. thanks to mountain multiservice for the pragmatic approach to filling a night that would likely have otherwise gone unfilled.

oh and extra time on snow for us!!! :)

No I'm not, and respectfully, interschools is just about the last thing I want to have a look at. But thanks anyway!
