    Hi,

I am looking for advice on the best skiing training program.

I have two daughters, 4 and 7 who have been skiing for the past 2 years. Both are interested to do some races this season.

I'm interested to know on whether anyone here have experience with the Snow Squad, or whether we would be better off using normal ski school program with private intensive for race skills. We were planning about 14 snow days this season but will consider extending this to around 24 if snow squad program is recommended.

    I appreciate your advice.

    Thanks

At 4 and 7 just focus on keeping skiing fun. Don't even worry about race skills.

What skill level? Age 4 & 7 is pretty young for race programs, but it works for some kids.
Also Snow Squad runs for 30 days.

Snow Squad if you want consistency of instruction and are happy to pay for the 30 days. If you just do normal ski school for 4-6 year olds you'll get different instructors week to week. All the strongest kids and more experienced instructors will be in Snow Squad.

So expensive in the Mini Squad (4-6) - nearly $3600! Still works out at $120 per day!

Tell me a race program that will actually take a 4 and 7yo?

They are both way too little for it. Just send them out there to shred.

The Mini Squad takes 4-6 year olds. But you are totally right. At that age, skiing should be about the fun, not the racing.

I think Seth was referring to a specialised program like Buller Race Club. Snow Squad is perfect - it's all about having fun and learning to ski properly. The kids who have a natural flair will progress faster, that's just the way it is at that age.

Snow Squad is the way to go. At that age they need to learn more about edging, correct body position, weight placement etc That's a lot more important than doing gates.

Racing is better suited to kids who have got the basic already under there belt.

    Exactly.

Snow squad does not equal race club.

It would be a much better option for relatively new skiers.

No no you need to get them into racing the minute they stop shitting their pants, and be sure to drum into them that winning is everything.

    Thanks for your response.

In terms of skills, the 7 year old is a blue emu from last year and was dabbling in red wombat skills. The 4 year old will be 5 soon and is a brown cocky.

The race we are thinking of is interschool where they can compete in Division 6 GS.

I need to work out if I can take the leave required from work and check into snow squad further it seems.

    Thanks again for your response.

My kids do interschools and don't do any seasonal programs. You can do interschools without race club or snow squad.

Based on the skill level, Snow Squad for the 7 year old if you are willing, you have the economics to do it and the child is willing. Remember it's a big commitment.

If interschools is what you are looking into as the 'race' do not bother with race privates. Just not worth it.

Just show them how a race course works (eg view race club training on the summit) or if you do go with snow squad they'll be ok.
