    Yes.
I think it would be an amazing adventure. Trying to work out how to do it at the moment. Without the expensive guides.

I've not made it to Afghanistan, but was up in the badgasten province in Tajikistan (which borders Afghanistan). I'm sure Afghanistan would have good skiing, but my view was that it looked really rocky.

What looked amazing was Kygyzstan, which is where the soviet ski team used to train. It has big big mountains, loads of snow, and even heliskiing. I was there early season so didn't get to Heli, but did get a ski day in at one of their resorts.

Basically, no one skis and there are loads of mountains to ski on - what's not to like!

Went skiing in Afghanistan this March. One of the most amazing things I've ever done. AndyT, I reckon you could do it without the guides. You'd want to be there a while to figure it out though, possibly be able to speak Dari or Pashto, and have quiet an understanding of the latest hotpots and political situation. My take on it was that for $2k for 10 days (which included accom, brekky, dinner, drivers, guides, ski guides and internal transport costs), the cost of the trip wasn;t too bad. Certainly worth the peace of mind, and we wouldn;t have done half the stuff we did.

A definite life highlight, get there before the troops leave!

Badakhshan in Northern Afghanistan ,near the Tajik border should be less troubled than other parts. It is Tajik speaking and has big mountains, lots of snow in winter and not much infrastructure. The women up there are very nice looking too.
