It's on. Aldi snow gear sale frenzy first thing in the morning. Get your haul home and check it over to see what you got and what you missed. Then off for a Democracy Sausage. Eat early, eat often (thanks @qwill). Early night so you can get up in time to watch the Eurovision final.

    Have I missed anything?

    Aldi snow gear is crap.
    The lines are huge.
Posters "there is so much left over stuff at my local Aldi"

Election day is looking busy for me, probably will have to go later.

There's always heaps of extras at the local.

Aldis microfleece tops are brilliant and the Widget will be getting 2 of them for her trip with me, the kids clothing is very good value but too warm for some days and far too warm for Cross Country work

Hit it last year. Decent stuff considering the price point.

I've blown through my ski pants and gloves pretty hard but love my jacket.

Was planning to pick up snow shoes this year mainly because I am hitting Japan in Feb. Does anyone have any experience with them? Should I invest?

So far in my Aldi snow shoes I have:
    • Spent two weeks staying in Blackcomb and often walking across to the shops on the Whistler side
    • Used with crampons and hiked glaciers in Alaska
    • Spent a month in Austria tramping around in them in Saalbach, Gerlos and Gastein
    • Spent another month in Hokkaido driving and tramping around in them
Never had an issue with mine. Everyone else on here will say 'buy Sorel' or whatnot. They're wrong IMO. Aldi FTW.

Nah, you always get bad weather between heli fly days so they send you out on excursions using their gear. Note the poor viz.

Aldi has real big mountain cred.
I reckon the gear is great too. Spent at day skiing at minus 30 at Lake Louise and the Aldi pants performed just as good as the brand name jacket.

    Always need more merino.
Socks for everyone and can't go past the cabin cosies.

Mstr 10 is going on a 3 day camping trip with school in the first week of June. The excursion co-ordinator sent a message out yesterday suggesting that parents go and pick up some thermals at the Aldi ski gear sale. At the moment, both kids have one set of Aldi thermals and one set I picked up at the local ski shop, but they’ve asked me to get them a second set of Aldi ones because they like the feel of the fabric better.

Fortunately we don’t need to get much this year. The kids will get another season from their outerwear. Our main purchases will be new thermal boots for the kids, a second set of kids thermals for each kid, merino thermals for hubby, and maybe some more socks.

My kids love the thermal snow shoes. Hubby got the largest mens snow shoes available and said they were plenty warm, but they ended up being a bit small, so he purchased a pair of Sorel boots while in NZ. I bought a pair of women’s boots at Aldi a couple of years ago, but they were the ones with zips up the side and no laces. I felt that they were nowhere near warm enough. The women’s version with the laces look much warmer, but unless you are right on it as soon as the doors open on sale day at my local Aldi, you miss out on shoes. After seeing hubby’s Sorel boots last year, I ended up ordering myself a pair as well.

Leather gloves looked very average last year. Anyone get them for feedback? They look the goods this year however.
Cabin Cosies???? Never saw them before, but looks like something dearly missed going by the feedback here. Will probably need another pair of snowshoes to replace my Aldi ones from about 6 years ago. Very good value.

I'll do a stocktake of our merino thermal tops and socks and top up if necessary. Otherwise the only thing is another pair of the phone gloves which are handy but not wearing too well.

Used them for 2 trips to Japan, warm but still might need spikes if it's really icy

I need apres-ski boots for Mr 13, but he’s between the child’s and adult sizes (about size 7 in Aussie men’s) so the kid’s size 5 will be too small while the men’s size 8 (smallest) will be too big. Hmm ....

There is no doubt that his feet will grow. Think mine was around that age when he went up 3 sizes in 6 months.

    Agree with both above.
May indeed be worth getting an 8 AND a 9.
If thick socks aren’t enough try lambs wool insoles also.
