Thanks. Never heard of that so googled it. Interesting.
Anyway, great to see the stream flowing so nicely. It looks so green down there atm!!
I was hoping to get down there at Christmas but my tenants will still be occupying my property. Oh well, maybe Easter.

A good flood in the Mowamba. Have you been down to the weir to see if there's any spill? Link here for some 15 year old pix.

If best Oct rains in Canberra since 1976, Jindabyne area can't be too far off that mark... W

Have not been down to the weir...

But all that flow is being diverted at that point into the dam and it’s filling nicely now.

    EDIT:

Hey @warrie - took a look at weir a few hours back. It typically subsides fast and I noted evidence of higher water levels from yesterday but it’s still spilling nicely ......

Green as -but lots of poplars and willows. 20th century thinking on riverbank stabilisation. NPWS ripped them out a decade or more ago along lower Snowy. But I guess Mowamba pix show trees on private property.

For the odd shower through Southern exposures of Tas, there's snow down to 700m tonight and into Tomorrow IMO.

Some seriously cold air over SW WA Monday night, Tuesday AM.
Touch and go for flurries on Bluff Knoll IMO.
I could be wrong but not sure there's been any reported snowfall on the Bluff Knoll in November.

I take it that the strong positive SAM/AAO with the increase in wind speeds around Antarctica is driving the strong southern ocean swell at present?

I recall a somewhat significant event in November as it happens, referred to by the BOM in one of their overviews of snow in Australia. Will dig.

    Edit: possibly 1992

    Touche!
92 & 76 had substantially more snow then.
Temps on yesterday AM were'nt nearly cold enough for Snow on Bluff Knoll, anyway.

Very steady winds on the leeward side with some solid gusts!! Anything outdoors not fixed is getting blown away with some raised dust despite the generally green paddocks. I expect we will possibly lose a tree or too out in the paddocks if this holds.

Thredbo top gust so far at 117 km/h.

BOM on the mark with the severe weather warning. Indicated gusts on the peaks up to 120km/h.

Wind strength not well captured here but it’s no gentle zephyr.......

All very quiet . Where are all the rain events for the south east that the models were predicting for November. We seem to have some early heat here with above average temperatures. Where is the rain that was predicted? temps still high next 7 days!!!

Winds picked up today. Thredbo TS with a gust at 96 km/h earlier this morning. Local resorts getting some reasonable rain.

Road towards Cooma circa 9:30 a.m. as the weather moved in.

Moonbah looking out from the house. Windy and wet with around 7mm. Not a lot but welcomed - will help top up the paddocks and it’s still falling lightly.

Looks to be some cooler weather pushing through the Alps on the 6th.
Chance of some Summer snow on the peaks in the Long Range modelling IMO. ATM looking like quite a vigorous low pressure system.

My son is planning a hike on main range from 7th to 11th December with a few friends. Some may not have a winter tent. What is the chance they get snow in that period. Maybe we need to find another 4 season tent?

It's still a long way out, but it is trending on EC. Still about a 20% chance of coming off given GFS is not interested.
If it were to come off, 7th looks like it'll be a clearing trend so maybe hold off on the 4 season tent yet IMO.

Perhaps also get a tent that can handle a bit of wind .....getting our share down here recently.

Forecast (weather warning) today is for damaging winds gusting around 120km/h to develop into the afternoon and evening.

Well it’s already gusting here in the lee and Thredbo has recorded a gust of 96km/h. Moisture is getting ripped out of the topsoils. Those green hills are slowly starting to turn brown!!!!

Still 10 days out so little forecast reliability. You could use WZ 28 day here : https://www.weatherzone.com.au/long-range-forecast/28-day-rain/
But it is useless a lot of the time. I have been looking at weekend of 12/13 Dec and it was high prob a week ago but today it's going for low pptn probability. 7th to 11th start s OK but ends wet. Going to the Snowies to hike for 4 days is bound to have a pm shower. Got drenched at Ngarigo a few years back doing TVT. If their days are a bit flexible, start looking at BoM 7 dayer and make a quick run to the mtns to beat any incoming rain.

Well yes and no......two very brief bursts in the last ten minutes. All of 20 seconds each .

EDIT: Radar showing a bit of colour just near Thredbo. Would be this lot in pic below. Might put things on hold up there for a bit - there’s some thunder with it.

Edit 2: Thredbo did go on hold. Wind and storms I gather.

    Maybe 2 mm here.

That's quite a beefy cold front over SW WA today. Perth a chilly 17c atm, and Busselton Pier copping 80 km/h SWly gusts.
