Pfft called it too early!
Yeah, but I had stuff to do, cloths to wash, food to prepare, beer to drink.
You know how it is.
But as @Telemark Phat would say, I made a poor life choice this arvo.
I just learned today - this phenomenon is called a Brocken Spectre. (Glory ring around shadow) My experience was not as bright as some.
Long time between log-ins?!
There is a reasonably wide spread on EPS .
Don't worry. I missed today!
I looked for you.
Tomorrow! 3 kidlets means it won't be early!
(Fyi - phone just auto corrected kidlits to killers! )
-7.4 at PV this morning.
So google is telling me it will snow in jindy tomorrow. Wishful thinking or is Jack sending me a goodluck message?
No.... Sorry x
Mt.Baw Baw 9/10/19. XC skiing in October . Is there any chance of another dose of this during October?
Fresh Snow/sleet showing on Thredbo basin cam.
Chucking it down at Perisher:
Some moisture in it too.
15-20 cents on the Main Range IMO.
nice little topping for the bc crew to play on.
I'm headed to Hobart next sunday so no go out there for me.
The season that never ends.
Whilst this is light years away, GFS progs a particularly boring period through the last week of October.
Slack, dry winds nation-wide.
If this is the effects of an intense strat disturbance being felt, it's not worth much in our region.
GFS toying with another clippey coldfront.
Strangely warm wind under an overcast sky this arvo in the Illawarra
Windy afternoon at Moonbah. Light drizzle but barely enough to wet the ground. Mountain looked ok this morning while I was fencing at home.
However, looking towards PV this afternoon the mountains are shrouded in cloud and copping some rain.
BOM confirms rain so far.......
Hi weather gurus, does anyone have an indication yet of what the weather might be like on 26 Oct at around 1100m near Jindabyne? The Jane Bunn auto forecast update this evening shows breezy and some snow up high about the peaks. Thank you
A fair chance of long wave trough influence. EC proggs a cut off low, whilst GFS has a ridge dominating scenario. A fair bit of divergence, yet.
Ok I guess I’ll have to wait until it’s a bit closer then? Thanks
Ramping up on the 25th on EC:
A bit of snow on the PV cams right now.
Snowing and raining at my little shack off the Alpine Way at 1230 ASL
A little wintry today in falls, about 1cm has fallen in the village with a mix of flakes and graupel
looks like it might keep coming for some time today
Really coming down on NSW resort live cams. Winds are somewhat benign at 15-30 knots for a wintery burst...
Coming down decently at Buller.
I’ll post some pics in the PV thread. Currently hammering in at Charlottes Pass....
It’s all grauple / sago so building quick on the rain impacted base.
Managed to scope tomorrow’s lines though.
Should be blue bird by first light. Get 'em @SMSkier
That works! Leeward slopes should be ok. The ice layer from the rain was evident though. Will see how it pans out. Creeks up as well.
Not sure if this link will work but winds were very strong at the turning circle....
It’s currently pushing of the mountains with occasional wind blown snow at Moonbah.
This front sitting South of the Bight (highlighted in red below) is a full-blown winter system. If it weren't for the sub-trop ridge we'd be in for some real winter weather, on the mainland.
Parts of Tas should see 20, maybe 30cm out of it up high tomorrow, through Saturday IMO.
Snow above 500m for SW Tas tomorrow night, IMO.
GFS flirting with EC's lead tonight for the 25/26th Oct.
Some 2-3 runs behind EC.
Standby for some big upgrades...
Snow across all of the resorts and still going in places. Plenty of accumulation on this roof.
Hope this is just a bright headlight or something and not a snow bush fire - buller just now.
I have the next two weeks in Tassie .
Layer up !
Here is a book on snow - a lot of detail / science (published 2019):
10 cms fresh. I reckon we picked a good line drop in close. Nice and gentle. Ski buddy on the recovery trail so nothing too tough.
Blue sky and a light breeze....
Lovely turns being made at Hotham.
That's awesome! Probably in singlets i would assume!
5-10mm accumulated at the front's passing this afternoon for Tas.
Observationally, temps around 4/5C for 500m elevation, currently. Winter has re-descended on Tas today.
Snow has begun to fall on Mount Field in the last hour:
