Nice morning, cooler with a light breeze and sun's out (for now). Has that slight feel of autumn to it that reminds you of the cooler months to come. Looking forward to it!

More rain on the Jindy North Shore ....

Our property cannot absorb anymore moisture and in some areas the grass is starting to "drown".

Pretty much a shower of some description every 12hrs over the last 3 weeks.

Quite tropical

Sure was wet…. Got soaked to the skin getting alpacas in for shearing but too late….. had to defer…

It surely would be a worry for the livestock standing in that black soup, endlessly?

Yet more storms on the alpine and surrounds….

Thredbo 84 mm
Perisher 37 mm

And here on the leeward 30mm.

Most of the above fell last night during a couple of large storms however it’s raining still.

I’ve never noted so much spring and summer rain. And it shows on the trees, lawns and garden. Incredible growth rates. And a river that’s broken it’s banks 3 times since Winter…..

That is snow covered in Winter. In the far distance. Towards PV. Ground here is waterlogged this morning. Just emptied the rain guage… finally tally is 42 mm. River is flooding again.

image.jpg
That 42mm I assume came in a couple of shorts hours like it did in East Jindy as well? Last night was up there with the most intense rain I've seen in years!

Not to mention the spectacular lightning in the lead up to it.

It was consistent passing showers all day followed by heavy rain over night on the North Shore.

I went to town and it was sunshine and shorts, that rain shadow is very obvious.

Hey weather lovin' dudes, if I were to write a story for Weatherzone with a headline like "Snowy Mountains locals have never seen a wet summer like this" (an assertion I will try to verify with data regarding both rain days and total rain), would anyone like to add an anecdotal comment or two please about what it's been like at your place? Just reply with "For WZ" or something at the start of your response, so I know not to take other comments here without permission. Onyas!

Lacking in heat, deserves at least as much prominence as "wet" when describing January 2022 in the Snowy Mtns. But it probably isn't very…ahem!, convenient, to mention the lack of heat when supposedly heatwaves are getting more brutal n shiiiiet innit.

I can give you stuff mate with pics.

Like the river at home flooding 3 times since about mid Spring - only see it like that on average about every 7 years.

That rain event was 4 January. 48 mm in 30 mins as part of one event.

The last pic - the one of the lake was in my pics and I don’t don’t recall taking that. Took so many that day and the timestamp is consistent with other shots I took. I did definitely take this one of the roos as a storm brewed.

WZ @Ramshead

I spoke with a born on the farm friend at Harro memorial and his comment was "I have seen a few good seasons but this is exceptional", +30yr neighbour "never quite seen it like this in regards to wet ground and creek flush" and another out towards Bocco way "a light shower and the river comes straight up" "haven't drowned my pump in 40ys but drowned it in December".

Some paddock pictures, has dried out once since May but now so wet any new rain just doesn't penetrate.

@Ramshead

Try to capture the rural angle, paddocks so wet little work can be done, clover so thick cattle are bloating, not enough beasts to eat the grass, too expensive to restock, etc.

It's a truly beautiful and lush environmental restoration season with a few niggling downsides.

Sure beats 2019/20

That's good stuff. Have to go into story to change a stat (not that I ever make mistakes!!!) and will add some of that stuff, not as a direct quote but as a "locals say" kinda deal. Cheers duck

Last night at about 7pm i decided i was finally going to summit mount kozi, Got up at 2am this morning and landed in Thredbo Valley at about 8ish, got a coffee and at 8:30 it was go time. Weather was a chilly 4 at the top and a refreshing 8 at the base, a nice break from Sydneys awful summer weather. I was amazed at how much green there was! Summited at 10am, managed to make it back to the top of Eagles Nest by 11:30 meaning roughly a 3 hour return trip, pretty cool! Vegetation is really healthy out on the range at the moment, you can see the bush regeneration thriving this season. Had some lunch down in the valley and off home, back at 6pm, top day!

I remember last post i did i got roasted for being a bit young, so go easy on me fellas ;)

Hello mate. Well done on the epic there-n-back. I did something similar this year to ski in June before they kicked us Sydney folk out. Gotta do what ya gotta do in the time available.

Three points and please feel free to ignore the second one:

1. We are not all fellas. Lots of women on this site.

2. Are those headphones in your ears? I am yet to meet a true lover of the mountains who thinks constant music while walking is a better soundtrack than nature. Please excuse me if they are some sort of hearing device.

3. Also is that a drone in the sky behind you? Dunno whose drone but my very firm opinion would be f all drones in national parks

Can't figure out if we are going to get a heat wave before the peak of summer passes by. It looks like it wants to try and push some of the heat further west onto the eastern seaboard but never seems to get over the line going by the models.

A few days 30 odd would be nice but much more than that I'm hibernating!

The rain called. It said see you next weekend.

The paddocks are still so wet I’ve switched back to riding the motor bike to get about. Way less track damage. For now however, it’s still mild and not a cloud. Such a welcome change. That’s forced me to sit here on the patio and observe the weather:

And drink this:

That’s one very clear evening sky….
