Life of a leeward cloud - couple of pics taken from at @Annago and @SalleeGirl yard this afternoon.......mild weather currently.
That first image is a beautiful example of Cumulus Mediocris with Cumulus Congestus in the distance (bottom-left of second frame). That cloud base is straight as a ruler too. Classic high country sett-up where convection clocks off like a wharfie, right on sunset.
Snow dusting possible to resort level (1300-1500m in the South, 1500-1800m in the North) on Friday afternoon/evening: The best activity is likely to be in the Southern resorts, provided it is cold enough.
Like all frontal systems at this time of year, Tas will see the bulk of the moisture with falls as high as 10-15mm tomorrow. It won't be leaving much more than 3-5mm on the mainland IMO. Good to see some polar air through the SE though.
Stunning upper level temps for mid-Summer. EC indicating -25C (500mb) over the mainland alps tomorrow night, from around midnight - which lends itself to some very unseasonably low snow.
Doesn't look like much moisture getting north at this stage. The High Perch is windy to 35kmh but the sky is wall to wall milky way.
Buller did well with what looks like 2-4cm, and notably all the way down to bottom of LBS. + A dusting on Thredbo’s Basin cam.
