    Hi
We base camped at JB Plain over the long weekend of 26-28/1/18.
I just got back from scouting out the Blue Rag trig point, The Twins' summit , Lankey Plains hut( near the Dargo High Plains Rd) and the Hotham Huts walk. We walked all of these routes!.That Blue Rag range track is very rough ,even on foot ,and the dip in the middle along the way is so steep :-0.
You could not ski down the Twins or off the Blue Rag trig point slopes unless you were a demon skier on AT gear. They look like triple black diamond runs to me or even go home in a Box runs.
Skiing down the Dargo high Plains road would be cool. The Lankey Plains hut 's chimney is stuffed and has been dismantled and there is a notice saying a pot belly stove is going to be installed. I am intrigued by the bushwalking route from that hut down to Mayford by the Dargo river and back. There is even an intentions book at the start of the track out there.
    Photos are coming soon :).

Many 4 WD enthusiasts were using this challenging track.Only we were walking it in the summer sun , without any shade on the steep and rocky vehicular track.

The Blue Rag Range Track , from near the Trig Point.
BC XC Skiing out there would be hard core. You'd have to be very good at skiing and remote white season survival.

Summit Views from the top of The Twins. How do people get up there and then ski down the very steep slopes in white season?........

Before you know it you'll be skiing those routes on your new gear wondering why you ever snowshoed :)

Sunset Clouds. JB Plain.JB Plain seems to give me horrible hay fever in green season. I will go back in August and ski it and snow camp near the hut.

Nice report, great pics. I walked into the Twins a couple of year ago and camped in the saddle on NYE. The walk was hot and boring on a 4 d track with a few vehicles passing me, not very pleasant. The camp spot was pretty good until the deer started bellowing all night. I have not been back!

We walked in, with day packs from the St. Bernard Hospice/Dargo road intersection area on the Mt. Hotham road. We followed the AAWT route straight up and over the spur of the Twins. It was steep and we popped out right where the AAWT snow pole marks the smaller of the two Twins. We followed the AAWT route down off from the Trig point to the saddle where it almost meets the Twins road. It was kind of hot that day and the cool and clear spring that flows over the Twins 4 WD track was so welcome.

26.1.18. On top of the Twins. The Twins look like a real mountain when seen from the Mt. Blue Rag Range track. They are steep and prominent from the deep valley floor.

Lankey Plains hut sans corrugated iron chimney .The gap where the chimney used to be has been filled up with fibro boarding or some such flimsy option.

Mt. Blue Rag Range trig. point. A visit here is apparently an absolute must do for green season 4 WD people. We walked it in and out from the Dargo H.P. road and were back by a late lunchtime!

Another view of the Blue Rag Range track ,looking back from near the Trig point towards the Dargo road .It was a bit of a slog what with being a rocky road the whole way , a squillion flies and no shade .It is very scenic and you see more stuff when you walk.

It’s pretty low. You’d have to time it to the hour just about in a really good storm.

I think the rope tow at St. Bernard only ran twice last year.

I was going to ask about that. I saw the rope tow on Mt. St. Bernard. It doesn't look very well used. What is the story with that?
Mt.St.Bernard is only 1540 M. ASL whereas The Twins and the Blue Rag Range trig point both stand well above 1700M.ASL.

It’s part of Wang Ski Club which you would have seen from the start of and during that first bit of the twins track.

If they can run it, they will but it’s increasingly too low.

The AAWT route over the summit of the Twins is not a clear walking path and it diverges from the 4 WD track and it goes straight up through the scrub, to the top and does the same again coming down the other side.

While slogging it up from The Cobungra Ditch/Swindler's Creek , up the Golden Mile Spur to Spargo's hut ,a leech crawled down my gaiter. When I took my gaiters and boots off at Spargo's hut for lunch and a rest I found the creepy parasite having a free lunch:Me!. I used my stove /gas lighter to burn it off. It was a nasty bite :-o

Are you allowed to kill native fauna in a National Park!
Is there a park regulation that covers leeches?

    Nice pix thanks!
In fact the terrain at Blue Rag is very similar to The Twins. I think @hongomania skied it this year or last. Biggest issue is getting out there from GAR. Day in, day out, a real slog! Only time we did it was on mountain bikes only to get out there and find there wasn't enough snow! Anyway it looks steeper in summer, there are some nice lines, but sure, best not to fall - not unlike many other lines in Vic BC.

The slog from the G.A.R./ Mt. St. Bernard is considerable if you are not permitted to drive out there. That is why I have asked the forum B.C. panel about skiing in from the Southern Dargo High Plains gate at Treasure plain. There were trip reports in white seasons past about The Twins and the Blue Rag Range Track. They inspired me to scout out the terrain in green season. The Rooftops map man cycled the Blue Rag Range track!
