This is a great new program being introduced by Falls Creek Ski Lifts for those thinking of giving sidecountry alpine touring a go but not wanting to plunge into the purchase of necessary equipment. www.skifalls.com.au/AlpineTouringProgram

That is just the sort of thing I am looking for.
The only thing it doesn't have in the program brief is safety briefing (what to take) and understanding the snow pack.

This is run by the Lift Co and 'side country' focused. What you are after in regards to safety and preparation is being provided by Falls Creek Ski Patrol (you should be able to find a link on www.fallscreek.com.au).

Tom Gellie ran a good side country op out of Charlotte. The gear is still there but no push since Tom defected to Thredbo.

At any rate someone connected with Falls Creek Ski Lifts might want to tell them to test the videos on the website.

Last season the FC ski patrol ran some BC awareness sessions on Mt McKay. Included avy basics. Can recommend them if they're on again.
