Does anyone know of any one night accommodation on mountain?

I would love to be able to do weekend trips without having to drive down to Mt Beauty to sleep.

You are unlikely to get one night cheaply. You may get some where there is a gap between other bookings. Try http://www.schuss.asn.au/index.php/falls-creek/falls-creek-availability Policy is:
    2 night minimum stay

We have a requirement of a 2 night minimum stay. Whilst we list the cost for 1 night bookings these are only taken at short notice and/or to fill one night spaces.

I would expect the other cub lodges to be similar.

I have stayed at Viking Lodge for one night, but that was years ago.

Ringing up a couple of days ahead may get you something in the cheaper lodges, eg Schuus, Alpha, Cosella, Chorki, Viking, Halleys, Cooroona, Diana, Feathertop. Booking further ahead may not work. In general they want to sell a whole weekend, but something is better than nothing when the weekend is getting very close and there is a spare room.

I'm not sure about Howman's Gap - they might be worth a try too

Note that Viking Lodge no longer offers accomodation to the public during winter.

    Another great lodge gone

Pack a sleeping bag, bivvy and camouflage cover and hide under a tree.
Although there are a shortage of hiding spots these days, but you can camp in the National Park and its just over the dam wall

The Lift Company bought the lodge in 2008, with the intention of using it for staff accomodation, but continued to operate it as a commercial lodge, accepting bookings from the public, until May this year.

I believe that the Lift Co. will still make the lodge available to the public outside of the ski season.

Yeah Schuss is across the road and we get overflow from them when they have big groups out of the ski season.

I thought it had been staff accommodation in winter for a few years.

Viking is now occupied by Lift Co staff for the season given other apartments were sold in 2011. Even though few staff are on mountain at the moment, accommodation isn't being offered to the public.

Try Silverski or Elk for cheaper accommodation. Elk will definitely do per night accom.
