Charlotte pass is the cheaper option but the road is alot higher and the last 10km or so could be a bit sketchy if conditions are bad. Not sure if they'll be out there ploughing - i'd say so given there's likley to be a few out and about. Even so you'll see snow further down the road if you can't get through to the end of the road.

Thanks, I'm guessing chains aren't needed for these conditions?

It's definitely hard to believe that a month a ago Adelaide was going through the hottest spell in Australian history (11+ days of +35 degrees Celsius).
Tonight Mt Lofty is left with 3-6C and isolated heavy hail...

NSW resorts are definitely going to benefit out of this system.

Argh... Most definitely chains will be needed above ground higher than 800m (even if it is precautionary).

Falls, Hotham and Thredbo havent got cold enough yet.

Yeah it doesn't look great for a big dump. Definitely cold enough but no where near enough moisture

Meso-laps still showing 30-50cm in the next couple of days.

Precipitation totals of 25mm at hotham and buller overnight - that should fall as snow up high in NSW. And there's still plenty of moisture crossing the coast in SA in the guts of the coldest air.

Surprised really. It was 14 degrees last night in H'ville at about 10pm.
This morning it looks very white on Hotham. If it keeps up I might have to lay some tracks tomorrow morning?

Still very cold here in Adelaide (7 degrees) and some very useful rain. Locally, I've had 27mm to 9:00am on top of 14mm the day before.
When this pool of cold air gets to the Alps we may see some decent falls.

Snowing up high in NSW now - above 1900m anyway. The snow level won't take long to start lowering

There's some good convergence over the Southern Alps, clearly visible here:

It's passing over and hitting NSW now. Snow has settled already at Thredbo and it's just starting to settle at Perisher.

Rain / Sleet in Jindabyne at the moment. Lots of precip heading this way by the look on the radars. NSW should cop it this afternoon and tonight. Cabramurra has droped from 5 to 2.4 in 15 mins and Thredbo top is now below 0. Here it comes.

Sleet in Jindy???. We have light rain in Berridale and its 12c. Jindy aint that far away and considering its only -.04 at the top of Thredbo I find it slightly hard to believe its sleet.

Same. My thermometer reads 14.5 up near the top of Gippsland St.

I just got back from down the street where it had started to rain and now I'm walking around the house in shorts and a t-shirt!

I know that it is coming though and hope that the BOM is right with their forecast because we could wake up to a white Jindy tomorrow morning!!! [IMG]

I think (hoping i am wrong) most of the moisture will slip south of the NSW resorts- following the current track- Thredbo will do the best but I still think 10-15cm max. Light dusting for Jindabyne and surounds probably not till very late today/early tomorrow. Gee Falls Creek cam looks great!!!

Just arrived down from Falls. Snowing down to just below Howman's gap at 12pm. Drove up to the dam wall, perhaps 10cm or so on the ground there, about 5 at Gully chair. Surprisingly enough there was very little wind.

and according to the BOM obs they've had about 17mm of precip since it hit zero and still -2.

Much as I'm loving this, I'm supposed to be meeting a plumber at Buller on Tuesday to check the roof of our apartment for any potential leaks prior to the season. Probably going to have 20cm of white stuff on it [IMG]

might have to get the kids sled out and take a few runs down Bourke St or even a few laps around the village on the XC skis [IMG]

NSW should do better than VIC from this one. Like i said earlier still plenty of moisture pushing inland across the SA coast. If anything some of it may go to far north.

I'm pretty confident there will be at least 30cm around 1800m. So confident i'm working today so i can get a ski in through the week!

Please take a bunch of photos and post a prompt trip report [IMG]

If it turns out enough snow falls, I would try to sneak away for a couple of days, but I think it's best saved for later when the season really starts.

Its cold in Berridale sitting around 6c ATM. Had a big drop in temp about an hour ago- definatly looks and feels like it could snow tonight. Heater is on for the first time this year.

Looked to be coming down hard at thredbo based on the late afternoon shots from the merrits and kosi express cams. I think it will look pretty good tomorrow morning.

I'm off to Mt Canobolas (near orange) for a gander tonight.

PD, are there many places to camp up high? Only need enough space for 2 man swag. Preferably not under the towers.
