Anyone got a good link(s) for alpine road conditions? Or advice. Wanting to get from Melb to Jinders late this week and would like to take a more direct route if poss. Driving a Subaru Outback. Macca
By more direct do you mean the Alpine Way? Sposed to be open except after big dumps: http://www.thredbo.com.au/about/getting.asp?tr=3
Thanks for reply. New to Vic. Yes, Alpine Way I guess. Would like to avoid going via Cooma if practical. Macca
Would take a substantial fall of snow to stop a Subaru Outback getting through..... As long as you are going through during the day you should be fine (talking about heavy snow).
Otherwise take the Princes to Cann River and head north. You can avoid Cooma. Might be quicker. Not done any of these in winter. Only in summer. On two wheels. Fast
The Apline Way is bitumen all the way and regularly cleared. Listen to for road condition reports each morning. snow fm
I drove the Alpine way on friday 12th. We left early and drove through. Snow and ice on the road however with care no problem and no need for chains if you are used to the conditions. We drive a V70XC, the subaru will sail through even with reasonably heavy snow. Watch for ice though.
We didn't make it to Buller, Scott. Still hoping for this w/e. Up to see Bruce late this week for new gear hopefully. Macca
