On the money
What an evening here. 25mm in past two hours with strong winds. Feral.
Was down Myrtleford way today , savage lightning this morning , big size rain and a bit of hail. Cleared in the afternoon to just plain rain but very persistent all day. However the look of the clouds going up the hills was just amazing and not surprised at the snow accumulation. Best looking clouds I have seen for a while , pity they didn't come when they could be useful and not just a novelty.
Not unusual though.
Of the 15 give or take decent systems we get a year, 4 or 5 are out of season!
115kph wind from SW @ Aireys Inlet
Torrential rain. BOM gauge not working
That would be 15cms in season ...
A very serious slug of moisture sliding through to the West of Melbourne. Clearly defined....
Somehow Ballarat just went from 45mm since 9am to 35mm?! Slug is thirsty on it's slide through the West...
AWS rain gauges are whack this eve. ^^^ or something similar, occurs at various stations
Wraparound has delivered 30mm here so far this evening. Still pouring down.
Jindy now cloudy, windy +3 but feeling like snow will happen tonight.
I suspect I'll be posting some pretty pics in the morning.
Falls Creek looks like it's picked up 10-15cm since this arvo.
I did some calculations based on AWS data.
Current snow depths for this storm.
Falls Creek = 15cm
Buller = 20-25cm
Hotham = 20cm
Perisher Valley = 5cm
Thredbo Top = 5-10cm
Looks like NSW has drawn the short straw, so far. Hopefully that rain blob comes to the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
I would say atleast 15cm on the ground up here at Hotham and still coming down, looks like I will be snowboarding tomorrow
Buller just posted on their Instagram a ruler in their white haul...14cm
As stated earlier the AWS aren't as reliable as eyeballing and manual obs.
There would be a bunch of melt too as the ground is still warm.
The initial snow melted pretty quick, but its settling solidly now at Hotham
And here in Bonbeach is almost dead calm.
Eye of the storm.
Still north east on the island too.
Gonna be surprising if there's not a foot on this table by morning... not much more to go, atleast before the rain sets in (by day break).
Haven't experienced weather like this in a while. Been coming down hard all night, rain woke me at around 3. Will be interested to see totals once it gets light
Looks like 15-20cm on the ground?
Clear, brisk (15C) morning here in Bondi.
Cams and AWS suggest showers still addin to what looks like maybe 5cm above 1700m for NSW with a dusting below down to 1450 (wilsons valley chain bay).
Vic resorts with perhaps 15-20cm above 1600m, with maybe 10cm down to ~1400m?
Upper blue mtns NSW 2 degrees at 6am, wind chill minus 4. Rattling house all night.
Perfect canyoning weather as i pack my stuff this morning.
Some total f***ing arsehole has driven his 4WD all over the toboggan run at LM. Combined with what's turned to rain, there's nothing left.
I thought they put in big boulders a few years ago to stop just that.
Things are expected to warm quickly this morning. Looks like rain below 1500m at the moment. FL expected to rise to around 2k by midday.
Some accumulation and fat flakes on Friday Flat (Thredbo) cam, 1365m
Perisher cams just updated
Is TTS weather station broken?
Warm air advection taking hold temps up, precip up. Buller and Baw Baw well into the positives now. Precip accumulating.
Nope, I suspect just frozen over restricting any precip registering. Happens all the time, despite heaters...
From hotham Facebook. A picture of winter...
Miserable morning in Melb.very windy with heavy rain around dawn....bloody bleak and cold.....but Bears say better that this weather passes today for some of our friends in Narbethong....hoping it's cleared by Tues morning.
No, looks like it is on the blink. If you go back through its history, is has been blinking on and off, including plenty of readings where the temp and apparent temp are +6 degrees or warmer.
Perisher had 15mm since the temps hit -ve around 7 last night
Thredbo Insta stories showing Good flakage into the village at the moment.
Need a trustworthy powerade bottle that we can rely on.
Not sure what link you're looking at but BOM is omitting apparent temp, dew point etc so maybe it's just spitting out bad data for those.
Thredbo TS AWS
Heavy bursts of rain been coming through Melbourne all morning.
Snowing at friends property but melting quick. It sits at about 1200 metres out along the Barry Way (15 mins out from Jindy). Rain here at 1100 metres-the temp has dropped a few degrees in the last hour. Currently plus 4.
Perisher is getting its share!
I reckon 20cm for Victoria above 1500m
5-10cm for NSW above 1600m, Dusting-5cm above 1200m
Thredbo (Where it still looks like it's snowing or sleeting?)
Overall, a great snowfall for April. And still snowing in NSW!
Even Snow on Wilsons Valley cam.
Those flakes look rather fat.
Selwyn almost looks skiable this morning
Hey Normo. Rock hoppers in front Valley? I'm heading up. Might pack some kit?
