Yesterday (31 Jan 20) Travel Insurance Direct & World Nomads declared Coronavirus a ‘known’. New policies no longer cover related claims. Covermore does not cover ‘pandemics’ so you were never covered anyway. Covermore is what you get from most agencies such as Flight Centre and they are usually the insurer behind your banks Visa/MC deal. So check your existing policies. Claims against flight cancelations will vary greatly between insurers. If the Aust govt cancels flights (eg in/out China) then you are screwed with Covermore even on existing policies. Flights cancelled by airline are more likely to be covered. Existing policies with premium insurers will possibly cover flight cancelations resulting from blanket state instigated directives. But check. Either way, if you intend to travel OS the next six months, READ THE PRODUCT DISCLOSURE STATEMENT. Folks with more detail to add on this issue are asked to please post below.
