My favourites around there are Solitude and The Canyons. The others are good too (Alta, PC, Deer Valley etc) but I particularly like those two. Try to get out and try them all, or as many as you can. Getting from o
Yep. The tunnels and house area would be brilliant for kids. Pretty flat but still great fun. The RHS with the steep stuff is great for different reasons. I liked The Canyons a lot. Solitude out the back was also a great place, but they are all good really compared to Oz. And so easy to ski lots of different places in the one trip.

Yeah there's some great skiing on the RHS of the Canyons Trail map + 9990 & Peak 5 - this was the original Park West area, the stuff on the LHS is real-estate driven but fun for kids. Will be interesting to see it all linked now with PC.

My favourite resorts in Utah all start with S - Snowbird, Solitude and Snowbasin.

Possibly more snow there than at some of the Japanese (Honshu) ski resorts. A belated hello Astro!

Fabulous day today. Sun was out and Young Astro and I wanted to go in search of hidden stashes of powder. But first we had to take Mrs Astro to the brand new Quicksilver Gondola that links Park City and Canyons resort.

Nup don't think the Solitude/Canyons gondy is progressing. I know there was a lot of enviro/nimby protest over it.

Also Deer Valley bought Solitude last year - IMO mainly as a strategic chess piece when everything eventually gets joined up - logistically a joined Utah mega resort doesn't require DV for access, but Solitude is important.

It really is fabulous. We were able to move seamlessly between the resorts.

And the discovery element was very entertaining.

Young Astro and I skied under Dream Catcher Chair. It was fresh snow all the way down.

We saw so many runs with fresh snow, and no one on them. We just didn't have the legs to try them all. But tomorrow we'll try and knock a few more off.

Take your son and go left at The Canyons through the fancy housing development. Plenty of tunnels under the access road. Very flat but interesting. Only worth doing once really but a nice gentle green run at the end of the day. Oh and keep ya ski tips and poles UP at the mid loading/unloading station on the orange lift. Lots of ski tips and poles get broken there. Maybe they have fixed the angles by now. A few years ago I was in the standing lift back to the car park with a broken carbon pole. I guy said "Been on the Orange lift have you?" "Yes" was the pissed off reply. He introduced himself as a senior manager at the resort and he told me it happens all the time. So he said "Go back up to a ski shop and get yourself a new set of carbon poles. I will call them and you can get them for free. The resort will pay." OK. Ripper. Would that happen in OZ? I like The Canyons except fot that bastard Orange lift mid station.

So we woke up to about 20cm worth of freshies this morning. Young Astro and I hit all the secret stashes we reckied yesterday. And a fabulous day was had.

Vis was a bit here and there. So we stuck close to the trees when it closed in.

Of the many I have talked to. Very few even know that the Vail Group have bought Perisher.

I really don't see them coming to Australia to ski,

Wasn't a question of time. All trails were covered in snow and ice and very dangerous to walk.

Fair enough. I can see how that can be very dangerous having done the walk in winter on a fresh cover of snow. If that was icy you could slide off in some very nasty spots.

It was Saturday today and lifts were pretty much ski straight on. Only exception was Silverlode which had a 5-7 min line as it's a link and ski run convergence.

Locals are saying the new gondola link to Canyons has drastically reduced lift and run congestion. Well done Vail Group.
