First post, very long time lurker... 4 beautiful days in perisher, but this morning is a character building day. Trying to snow, Vis a bit better now. Needs more cold. Better than work.
Rain varying between light and moderate for an hour or two in Hotham this morning. Stopped now with occasional sunshine and much higher cloud. Wind dropped off from this morning but still gusty high up. Shame it wasnt a couple of degrees colder...
R#in on the ben this morning caused a bit of damage to front slopes - its cooled now - hopefully a good freeze tonight will sort it . currently 0.7 degs - 8mm of precipitation today
Day started badly at PV , overnight r##n resulting in wet slow snow this morning , poor vis above mid station , bit of wind into the deal as well. Didnt like conditions but was prepared to persist until..................... more rain started at around 10.15am. Decided that it wasnt worth getting wet on the outside so went to home and then on to the pub and got mildly saturated on the inside. Try again tomorrow.
Some good totals (by Perth standards) out of the SW today: Apologies for the PerthNow reference, not my preferred choice of WX media source....
Dried up at Perisher around 12 or so. This arvo was sketchy viz but worth a try. Will be amongst it tomoz , boardies and t shirt maybe ....
Buller. Woke to rain and wind and rolled over. By time hit slopes at 9am was not too windy, slight drizzle. Snow in pretty good nick (where it wasn't patchy). Some graupel for 10mins. Viz up and down all day, from absolute white out to sun - then back again. Snow held up well and will freeze ok overnight - hopefully they can make a little too...
Hair dryers on already. Wind picked up in the Dandenongs vic, weather station says 21degrees outside.
Beautiful morning in Perisher, winds lighter than expected. A few clouds rolling over now, wind may be picking up.
Warm and sunny at Thredbo wind not to strong, snow surprisingly holding up but bare patches really starting to appear
21.6 in Melbourne, warmest August 18 on record. But well short of the hottest August day ever of 26.5 (29/08/1982)
That Satellite looks very similar to how we started winter, but just a little further south. lets hope next weeks system delivers the direct hit we have been waiting for.
At Falls today and they will be very affected if it rains much at all. Lots of brown patches every where other than snow making areas. They need snow.
Just arrived at Hotham. Car showing 4 degrees. The wind on the other hand is BLOWING. No rain or snow as yet but hopefully should arrive soon. Full moon and spectacular views on the drive up. Not sure if I have seen the mountains looking more spectacular than tonight
Hear comes the rain on Melbourne radar (maybe an hour away?). Maybe 2.5 hours from the alps. 17mm in Hamilton already. 8mm at Stawell. Mt William down to 4C.
That rainband is tracking south east and will probably stay south of the divide and miss the main resorts of the alps. The next rainband which may affect the alps is passing through Renmark.
Yeah was howling down lake level into the early morning but backed off right on dawn, light to moderate in strength now.
Sitting around at Dinner Plain debating whether to go out. Wind is howling and very mild outside. Expecting major wind holds for the majority of lifts. The resort looks like conditions that would be found in mid spring. Looking forward to the front coming through and the new snow. Countdown is on.
Sitting in car in Davenport at Hotham. Very windy, seems to be graupel or hail falling atm, which better than clear snow
I noticed that radar precipitation is cool air west of Melbourne, and warm air east of Melbourne seems to have less precipitation. good signs.
Just sitting looking out at Heavenly which is the only lift open atm. Car is rocking from at least 100km wind bursts. Was thinking of going out. No chance. Dark clouds rolling in. Light rain atm.
Indeed. Was pretty mild. Had the door open well into the evening in Bonbeach. The stronger the cold front and penetration into SA, the warmer the air/day preceding it. Almost clockwork. Like the inevitable general bewilderment of your average punter of 21c then 14c and cold. Every time.
Reckon this prefrontal is a snow chance. Initially drops 2c with the moisture grading around to a 4c drop by the back end. Hotham sitting at 2c currently.
From last Saturday and still see it vaild for much of today IMO. Can't see much in the way of accumulation below 1800m until later this mid-arvo IMO.
