Raining lightly and 8°C down at the SkiTube Carpark, although it looks like clearing
Windy already but a nice looking morning up at Buller!
made first lifts today after missing out yesterday - road closed into Thredbo from 9:10am (Saturday)
Great conditions, very warm tho, hoodie and t shirt weather, wind up top picking up, seems like a nw? I’ll check soon. must be above freezing even at the top maybe 3 degree. And feels like 10 or so in the village.
They where adding an extra barrier on the super trial as the snow has reach les the top already to
Stop people flying down the cliff
Looking forward to the snow arriving later tonight. Ops from saw pit to follow after - if I have reception

Could drive back to Jindy tbuto get forgottoen items but then will have the whole will I get a park thing so saving my energy for some mid week ski days coming up. Surprised i remembered the kids actually!
Wind was up and quite strong at sunrise. Some unusual cloud formation. About 7 degrees.
By the time I got to PV it was quite still and mild.
A bit of a breeze up here around 10:00 am. Some remnants of that cloud.
Currently mild, not that much wind down low and no real sign of the weather to come.
Wild wind here at Buller. Few drops here and there.
Wind just starting to hit Perisher. Snow was ok. Queues good and bad.
Wind building, a little hairdryer but still clear over the front range.
Surprised to see a wintery mix from black salles Thredbo. snow falling now at eagles nest - good signs?
Just leaving perisher, it was taking to spit. It looked a bit floaty.
Range just disappearing under the clouds. Working in a T shirt at Hill Top
Some dark clouds building at Perisher. A few drops falling here and there, surprisingly some of a white variety (still mild).
It's seven degrees!
Yes! Very mild with rather sticky snow. But there were definitely some flakes falling sporadically (weird).
Decent snow and sleet at the top of Thredbo now.
Temp dropped from 11 to 3 in Thredbo village in the past half hour.
Appears to me they're some very cool looking roll clouds. Amazing stuff.
On mt perisher it has been snowing intermittently since 1pm, not sleet, not graupel, big fat flakes. Temps around 7C
Got quite heavy at one stage
The dew point is minus 4.6 so explains why snowing at temps over zero
Temperature just dropped driving home from Buller. Entering the Hume near Seymour the temperature dropped from 15 to 7 is about 20 minutes.
Leaving Perisher at 2pm car said 7c but there were some flakes.
I hope it cools down At BB radar impressive
Dogs being blown off chains down near the river in Dalgety 19degrees outside
Driving back to Melbourne now, approaching Yarck, r**n is really coming down heavy. Drive safe and take it easy out there.
Coming down now in the strezleckis and temp falling sharply! Some fruit in this band for the mountains imo
Mount lofty S.a. Currently 1.3c!!
Some good cold air coming
Just started absolutely hosing it down in Sawmill.
Cold change appears to be somewhere between Yarrawonga and Albury at present.
Down to 0.4 at Buller. Seems to be snowing on the cams
It's reading 2deg on the thermometer at our lodge at Buller, started snowing just now despite the marginal temps. Bucketed rain for 5 mins earlier but snow is starting to settle.
Edit - bucketing snow now
Yeah, I'd say the models fugged this one up.
No prefrontal in it.
Till todays run
Some flakes falling outside my window at Perisher.
Keen to see some PM temp profiles (obsved) for Wagga, because that Perisher snow at +7C (+4C Thredbo TS) is pretty freaking nuts.
Models have not shown significant prefrontal rain since Monday. And the light prefrontal they were showing was mostly in NSW. Not really fair to say they fugged up when they picked it perfectly.
Since Monday!? yeah righto.
It's been on every model.
Feel free to point me to a Model on Monday that showed no PF.
All of them. ACCESS/GFS/EC. They had some heavy prefrontal on Monday and since then every run has had 1-5mm of prefrontal, mostly in NSW.
EC had prefrontal up until 00Z run.
EC Yesterday must have slipped your inbox/eyes.
Anyway, still leaves you 5 mm or so short.
Bonus, so high fives all round.
12Z run today---Post # 281 in predictions clearly shows contrasting amounts of precip type were progged.
When you say it had prefrontal, what are you actually looking at which made you determine this?
I had a look at that post. It shows 5 day totals. How do you know the model uses a 1:10 rain to snow ratio and how do you know some of the precip which is not snow does not occur on Wednesday?
Very flat light today, particularly in the afternoon. Winds building gradually to strong throughout the day. As suggested by others, big snowflakes later up on the higher slopes at Perisher.
Bit of a pre-action shot from Middlingbank Rd, just south of Snowy Mtns Highway, at about 1300m elevation, taken on way home this morning. Nearby snow drifts amongst the cows are actually from the preceding storm, starting 08 Aug, so still there 10 days later. Still quite a few drifts on the hills around Adaminaby. Big white lump is Jagungal I think.
flogging down at Buller since about 5.15pm.
At least 2-3cm on the balcony rail already, road is a disaster already.......... all points to an excellent day on the hill tomorrow
No sign of precipitation at Thredbo right now
Buller cams look solid
Albeit prefrontal, when the moisture hit the dandenongs in earnest (at about 3 -3.30) it had ice in it. Whilst the thermometer on the car still said 7deg (at about 400asl) it was hand freezing weather.
