Very warm overnight here in Melbourne. Rain mass looks to hit us within the hour.
Hotham -0.1.. Snow level just too high,. R...
1.1 degrees at Buller with rain mass about to come in
Raining heavily at Falls Creek ☹️
2.4 degrees at Baw Baw and raining
Raining at Perisher from reports (I'm not there)
Looks aweful on Sat pi . What cold air is left behind the warm air is heading over the top of the alps.
Sleety at approx 1750m at Hotham. Some decent flakes time to time.
1.7 degrees here at Perisher, drizzling and windy!
Actually even a few flakes starting to settle.. WTF!?!
So how much damage is expected to be done? Going up to buller for the weekend and they only just got all lifts rolling.. hate to be boarding on grass
I don't expect all lifts to be rolling, Runs like Cow Camp, Whiskey Creek and Wood Run will be affected by the rain worst
The radar looks like the kind of thing I would like to see in Spring when we need some rain to fill our dams and help out the farmers prior to summer. On the 1st August though, not so good.
I think you can expect a tease today @1750m. It will be on and off all day. Mainly off though IMO.
On the hill in Perisher. More wet snow/sleet than rain at the moment.
especially when the dams and catchments are already full and sodden.
Looking out lodge window seems to be more snow than drizzle now.
I'm around in a Lodge near Telemark - puking flakes now (albeit horizontal)
Heavy rain and no vis at Falls. I've struck out with the weather on this trip.
Welcome to my life
Starting to see a few flakes amongst the downpour.
Most of the larger dams (Dartmouth, Hume, Eildon, Thomson) have plenty of capacity to fill atm. They're gonna get another bump after this system rolls through. Pretty much all run off.
Eildon was barely at a quarter capacity when I past it on the way to Buller.
Snowing at falls. Wet but there.
Temp at Perisher still Falling , below 0 at top now, bring that radar return over, more snow.. , it all helps. 2.8mm in gauge till 9am, Its not heavy only light till 10am.. Now where has our low gone?
The odd flake, but mostly heavy rain.
A "wintry mix" sorta day.
What a difference 2C would make!
they call it a "wintery mix" but it aint real wintery in reality. "****ing useless marginal spring like mix" would be more appropriate.
And back to rain...
Pretty much only good for testing out how waterproof your gear is, but inevitably, you'll probably end up damp on the inside no matter how breathable your gear is. Not many on the hill at Falls.
Would still rather be skiing than at work though.
The uppers are not ridiculously warm so I suspect it will chop and change during the day.
Dunno. I reckon about 2 or 3 hours skiing in the rain and I'm done. It's definitely a low fun factor activity when it's wet IMO
Thredbo has snow to mid station, rain at the bottom. Could be worse.
Nobody enjoys skiing in the rain... But you do it cause you had to sell the dog to afford the lift pass.
Yeh, you feel you have to get value for that 100 odd bucks you forked out!
Stay on topic CC!
Snowing nicely at perished base. Not sticking to bare ground yet.
There were actually folks trying to get out in the downpour we had Friday week ago... Fark that.
Raining in the village but definitely snowing at Cloud Nine at Falls.
I reckon if we can get through today with wet snow /sleet above 1700m we have done well.
edit...report from dinner plain 1570m is its now snowing (wet snow)
I observe it slidging in Falls Creek village
Looking at temperature figures for areas where the rain band has been through, there was not any temp rise, so hopefully it will stay as sleet rather than rain.
Indeed front chart shows that exactly, warmer air in the mix.
Perisher Village starting to snow fairly consistently rather than rain but pretty wet snow.
Falls telling us it's snowing on FB
Appears to be on and off.
Marketing department was definitely out when it was snowing.
However if we can get through the day with mix of snow and rain we will do pretty well.
Should almost negate any loss with a gain once it cools later tonight.
Might dodge a bullet here.
snowing and wet at Smiggins, more holes than usual
Buller reporting snow also. Sure it'd be much the same as Falls.
