Top half is fine. Had some nice skiing off the Basin and the top half of the ST.
Rain streaming down the Hunter.
I figure the hunter will flood by the end of spring...
Radar has it closing in on Sydney nicely.
I just stood next to a lady in a queue telling telling the cashier attendent of the shop how 'lovely this weather' is and how she loves spring for the dry, warmer days it brings... As I scrolled through the radar on my phone next to her, I couldn't help but have a chuckle.
Pitter patter on the roof.
top station Thredbo -2.5C
Perisher Valley -0.9C
finally, some proper temps.
stupid warm in Sydney today....
Still -2 at Perisher.
Moisture on radar on a line NW / SE to the North of Goulburn.
Satellite pic rotation suggests bulk of the tropical feed drifting to the East
Some nice colder looking cloud South of WA.
C'mon huey !
It's just stunning at Falls this morning. Still, mild and the resort has done an amazing job overnight. It's skiing beautifully (groomed corduroy) whereas yesterday was slushy crap.
Is Lake Eyre full because the low seemed to pick up some juice in that area as it was passing over ??
Not sure if thats a rhetorical statement but Lake Eyre has been a wetlands for much of the year. It takes months to flood it, not a single system. Not ever.
I observe the moisture drifting further South as the morning went on.
As for the mountains I'd have to say ...incoming.
Light rain in Jindy, 10c Though temps seem to be dropping up the hill?
Only slightly, probably just cooling with the slight increase in wind. Nothing good will come of it with winds coming out of the NE IMO
"It's only the second day of September and some parts of the country have already seen close to double their average spring rainfall."
"In New South Wales, Coonabarabran collected 71mm in under 20 hours, their heaviest rain in over a century for this time of year. Further west, Bourke had 45mm, their heaviest September rain in 70 years."
Dropped only 1 deg in the last hr Perisher AWS.
And this morning's Sydney T-Skew puts freeze level around 2800m (inline with the models). No hope of resort snow today IMO.
Thx. I actually printed out the info on how to read this yesterday.
Canberra Airport doesn't have one it appears.
Wagga show it a little under 2500 by comparison.
Weather radar is starting to look ugly for the NSW resorts.
First light shower just hit Thredbo. 0.5 up top. Two more runs and I'm done before the rain!!
It's getting darker and darker in Thredbo. AWS temp is lowering though, down to 0.5c come on baby
Raining at Perisher, just got the SOS call to collect the kid.
I love listening to weather numpties
La Nina here we come again.
Snow falling half way up cruiser 1.55pm
Core of the low looks to have already dropped into the 995hpa range and still deepening.
This could also inflict some wind damage as it heads SE
Where are you getting the pressure obs from ?
Well the temps have got me confused. Mount Ginini (1800m) still ~3C. Sounds like a wandering cold pool.
I'm looking at the BOM radar, am I right in thinking that it doesn't look like the Victorian resorts are going to get hammered as badly?
9 deg at my joint near Qbyn & I've just lit the fire for first time in bout 5 days. Raining steadily.
996hPa @Tibooburra Station. Latest BOM MSLP has it mapped thereabouts also.
Certainly not initially. That could change as the low deepens.
thredbo village now steady rain.
top covered in cloud and looks like there may be some love?
Temp about 2deg at Perisher village level now. Should drop a couple deg in bout 4 hours, above 1700m could get snow all night?
Thought I'd give Perisher a try after a week at Thredbo... Snowing at the top of mount Perisher raining below 1900m
Raining moderately all the way to jindy as bailed due to poor visibility
Thredbo snow to top of gunbarrell tain below, been like that since 2pm. Headed down now to get kids from lessons!!
Puking at Perisher right now.
I observe precipitation at perisher this afternoon, falling as snow up high. The level has been fluctuating between 1800-1900m, even though temps are quite warmish.
Looks like snow falling on Front Valley (Perisher), c/- snow cams?
Hopefully this bodes okay for the One Hit Wonder jump
I'm sitting in a lodge near Telemark and the deck is now covered in snow.
Cams definitiely showing snow at Perisher, all the way down to Front Valley
Thx . I know some places post the pressure obs .
But not all locations was thinking the fallen may have another interesting resource
All the way down to Smiggins
Temps are falling at Perisher. Could this turn out to be better than expected or am I getting excited too soon?
It's pretty much 10 or 12 hours earlier than most here where thinking , and there has not been the drenching beforehand we anticipated.
Win , Win.
Steady as she goes.
@jeffx gets prediction of the year quite possibly for this one
Looking at the latest sat pics, snow is definitely a bonus at the moment!
Strong moist tropical feed and no apparent cold air injection.
Take it and run......
Carn!! :o Fingers crossed from Adelaide!
