I observe i might have missed something.... what's been cancelled? And on topic - heavy steady rain in canberra so will have to pack the car at 5.30am
Light rain at Buller. Temp appears to be dropping but has a couple of deg to go. I don't have high hopes for tomorrow.
Think he means the SSA children's races. Which Thredbo cancelled and then Perisher took them up. Inter schools is still on.
And to think I was at Buller last weekend and Friday was some of the best skiing I have had for years
It was the SSA Children's series, a bit of a step up from inter schools There are requirements around vertical drop on courses etc unlike inter schools, and Thredbo just don't have the snow down low to run them (with the required vertical for e.g.: Rossi doesn't cut it) or the fortitude to run them up at the top of the mountain in decent snow, so they cancelled. To be honest, given some of the courses and snow quality Thredbo have dished up at inter schools and club races over the last couple of years, its probably a blessing that its been MOVED to Perisher.
It's been a bit of surprise to get something so favourable for Friday. Give it a 6-8 hours and I reckon it'll be on the revert.
Thredbo top still puking but. Its really about the cold air injection saturday that will make some good riding. This wet snow today is about repairing the damage first, which should freeze up saturday.
I think we had a win with snow down to 1400m for a few hours but looks to have retreated back up to 1800m plus for now. Lets see if it can drop back down in the morning.
sh!t !!! I keep looking at the sat loop and can't work out where the cold air came from to cause it to snow, considering it was a moist NW feed. It also 'appears' like the rain won't for very long as the cloud seems to be passing quickly. Some very interesting cold from the system in the Bight, but looks like it won't reach the Alps
Still zero up top Wait till the daylight breaks. Where in gods hands now the light will let us know prepare yourselves
So 50mm in the guage at perisher AWS at this stage. Obviously a mix of rain and snow at the base at 1700m. However, based on the temps and observations yesterday afternoon I would expect that would have fallen as heavy snow up high 1900m + (and main range). It will be interesting to have a look up high later this morning.
looking a little promising on cedar wood this morning?? I'm suggesting it must be very wet snot like though as temps didn't get any lower than 10 deg where I live (400m) usually needs to be no higher than 3-4 deg for good effects up top.
Pineapple.....or......this. This is a big get out of jail free card! All about the centre of the low over the Alps and the pressure imo.
Yep . Temps where always looking suspect. Like you say was the lower pressure and position of the low that swung it our way.
Doubt it around the village level. There appears to be less than when we arrived while it was snowing
I observe very windy horizontal misty rain and minor flooding on the road between Goulburn and Lake George at the moment. Miserable for driving
Was someone spun into the cliff just down from Tyrolean headed into town this morning too. Good lesson in manoeuvring around police and crashed car for my L plater.
The hook of a little low is showing up in the front so it may deepen and surprise Southern edge, just about to hit the West Coast of Vic. Might be worth tracking
