Top of Thredbo is great skiing. Snowing from halfway up cruiser. Plenty of fresh stuff around antons!

Just got in after being on 4th chairlift this morning. Rainy drizzle most of the day down low. Turned to sleet then snow higher up. Turned out to be a pretty great day considering what was expected. I'm looking forward to Tomorrow morning. Bring on more snow. There was some really deep soft stuff up top. Saw people having to crawl out of it. Tomorrow should be sweeeeet!

looks as though they will concentrate on keeping half open - which seems appropriate given reduced traffic at this time of year.

I think most of the Snow Making is on the Southern Arm (left side of pic) from memory so the North side is mainly natural (but could be wrong)

At perisher around 10cm village, 20-25cm at the top. All was heavy elephant snot though, very hard work to ski. It obviously rained all the way to the top at some stage during the night, you could see where the rivulets had run accross the snow. Lightly snowing all day with the level 1700-1750.

The heavy snow made it tough going today, but definitely a net positive event, which is so much better than it might have been.

Maybe I should come on the forum and bitch about yr no crazy snow forecasts more often ;)

As Pow mentioned, the next front is not packing much but will be good for the Main Range. Rain, snot then a dusting and a good freeze should consolidate the pack?

Was snowing at the top of Thredbo today, raining heavily in the village ATM.
The lower half of the hill looks very unhappy :(

Warm air and moisture bubble (lack of a better word) between the low and trailing front.

It happens but some decent air on its way.

The spring sun heats up the soggy soil from the rain that has fallen and without a cold air feed (yet) will cause a localised, altitude driven, pre frontal to develop.

But the same ground warming will feed the snow totals after the cool air.

Its not a bad thing :)

Temps now looking to drop in NSW. Moisture on the radar. I reckon a chance of 10cm overnight for higher parts.

The Thredbo AWS is showing 10mm since 9am. It usually doesn't register snow, does that mean it rained right to the top today? The max was 0.0C

When it warms up a blob can fall in and give an inaccurate reading. A few kms but 200m lowe perisher has had about 4mm and from reports on the hill most was wet snow.

Pissing down in Jindabyne now and dropped 3c in an hour :D

I see it breaking up. It's very weak. I think it'll be occasional showers by the time it hits the alps.

Has looked that way all day but still holding.

Give it 2 hours of late afternoon evap feed and then see.

Then add in the west slopes of main range granit heat soak feeding the sponge and its good for 15 cents at least. IMO

To quantify, i am talking western to mid main range NSW. Walking teritory

    Mmm T Skew.

    Is the future.

Private companies are already paying to fit similar devices to all commercial/large private aircraft.

    Weather baloon is already history.

Just need to fund ground stations to read and report regular updates (sats iffy in thundy storms) at takeoff intervals and weather casting hits a whole new world.

Learn to read or miss the flight.

I may be wrong but I presume Wagga would've been equipped for balloon operations long before Canberra was established (as a city and as airport), so it's hardly worth having two Skew-T operations within ~150-200km as the crow flies.

    Happy Fathers Day all.

I've enjoyed multiple rums tonight in memory of the Fallen One and got to talk snow to boot.

I hope tonight delivers for those lucky enough to be above the snowline and to all the regulars and Mods that make this site rock, thankyou!

    Its been a fun year.

It's been Sago snowing since about 12:30 @1820m out from Ilawong ( NSW Main Range ), grit blasting my tent, getting finer by the hour. The wind has been gusting pretty strong the whole time. Hopefully some decent flakes soon ...might then be quite enought to sleep !

Trying to snow in Thredbo Village, the odd flake appearing in the sleety mix.

perisher obs. Very windy. Groomers at work. Torch beam shows only little bits of wind blown stuff. Though some of the higher groomers look a bit like there may just be something more than wind blown, but not much.
