Sister’s place at the base of Mt Macedon.
New Gisbourne Train Station:
And Baw Baw today looking like it's one of the majors.
Roads still closed to Baw Baw, Lake Mountain and Mt Macedon.
"We have the rebel base in sight lord vader"
yep even the ski patrol need a hand?
We may have to extend date range to include another shovel day for Baw Baw.
I would love to see some pictures of the Mt Baw Baw guage halfway up Summit T-Bar. Must be close to cracking the 1m mark.
Just getting towards Canberra, good snow in dem thar hills
90cm I think I heard.
A few of the lodges in the Falls village this morning. After last night's top up and the sun
burnt away the clouds, it had to be the best conditions today you would get in Australia.
Not a bad day at falls.
Shameless new ski pic
Just jumped back in the car at Perisher. -1c in the car park and the lightest of snow blowing around.
I observed North P was bottomless face shots first thing....
Mods. Please just blanket like every post in thread. I think I missed some.
Light snow at Buller all morning just looking like it might clear soon. I also observe I’ve got some digging to do so CG can get out first thing in the morning.
That said there’s still a bit pushing up from the South on the radar but the Tassie rain shadow is in effect.
Thanks to everyone who has submitted observations for this system, as it starts to rap up. Solid job from all those involved with the snow predictions, we collectively nailed this system very early on. Thanks to those who took a moment and sent us their snow pictures. The observations and predictions threads here were the best place to see this storm, from the long term forecast to the massive dump photos posted here in the last few days. And that is thanks to everyone
Mt St Gwinear reporting 130cm natural snow depth. 120cm in carpark. Best cover in about 25 years I reckon. Road is still closed too.
Dunno, I was at Falls
Agreed x2. Thanks to the experts on here I was able to book accommodation and be up at Perisher for this.
Never seen conditions like it in Oz.
Every season has its moments, just got to be there for them. Not always easy though
Here's my ops from Friday Saturday at Thredbo.
Yeah... often midweek lol
That feeling when you went to Thredbo last weekend... but could have been this weekend.
Snowing again at Buller
Send off the track
Best bluebird morning I’ve skied at Thredbo, and that’s topping yesterday’s epic bluebird morning (before the snow started again) .
Was carnage in the village this morning, so much snow everywhere! So much falling from the roofs as the sun warmed them - best to look up before stepping out.
Had to call it a day as the legs were dead, and it’s snowing yet AGAIN
Can’t wait for tomorrow runs.
Will update on conditions again later. No pics sorry, was too fun to stop and take them.
It does give a bit of hang time, hit that many a times
Can't remember the Tassie rainshadow looking so prominent on Sat. This system keeps delivering.
Tassie is always a skyscraper...
This was a little over a week ago:
Just settling in to the campground for the next two weeks. Had to put chains on the bus to maneuver into our site, she didnt want to back up in the snow!
Snow on buffalo is a thing of beauty
It is, just couldn't remember seeing it that prominent. Maybe wasn't looking enough.
Lightly snowing again at falls
Has there been much throughout the day? BOM says ~5mm, got a feeling that is just melt into the rain gauge.
Correct, has been nothing since I got up this morning at 7am.
Has closed in now though so should snow lightly for a while
Saved this one from last year I think ?
Just loved the snow on the Ben,
that feeling when you where done deal but had to pull the pin …..
life's not so simple some times - but bigger pic all good.
ROAD UPDATE 5.45pm
Resort Entry and the Tourist Roads are now open to downhill traffic only for guests urgently needing to leave the resort. If you do leave tonight please take care on the roads.
Tourist Road and Resort Entry Roads are expected to reopen to all traffic from 9.00am tomorrow morning. South Face Road is expected to remain closed.
We will provide further updates at 9.00am tomorrow.
Maltese looking awesome !!!
I posted a few observation pics over in the Donna Buang thread...
Awesome just wished it happened a little more often..
Will it go SE Thredbo style?
Yep, I've lived below this mountain for 26 years and this was only the third opportunity to have a crack at the full back road ski up to Donna Buang and return.
It's already through the back door. It's all falling apart on the coast. Not enough convergence IMO.
usually with a SE Thredbo special you see things tighten, but this is just steady onshore flow. That said it is steadily snowing in Thredbo so all good for now.
Current precip obs for today:
Snowing on and off this evening at sawpit.
Snowed at my mates place in Gisborne this morning.
What a storm...
I observe a blob down south
Also snowing and 0° in thredbo as we drove in about 1700 today. Kids are going bananas
Some carnage on the roadside - a buss had taken a biiig hit
Still snowing on the T-bone at perisher as well
Can I ask the other years that you were able to ski?
Off the top of my head, there was a couple of opportunities around 95 or 96. Best shot was 97 from memory when there was about 20cm at 500m but the road was still open and quickly turned into a mess.
Last year had a good dump to low levels but I walked to Ben Cairn, wishing I had taken skis!
Sept 1995 was a special event, and I also remember visiting Donna Buang in August 96 when there was 60cm at the summit.
