Occasional snow flurries here at Hotham.
Yep, once in a decade type stuff. AMAZING.
It was Nuking down at Lake Mtn. yesterday , just biblical proportions. ! 10/8/19.That is my car after XC skiing for about 4.5 hours.
Still snowing . Four days straight. Thredbo Alpine Village. Car locked in for the week.
Was pretty dry when I arrived in Omeo last night, and overnight and during the day it didn't rain much down here. Up the hill at Hotham there were flurries throughout the day. As I left Dinner Plain to come back to Omeo, around 4:30pm, the snow was becoming a bit more consistent, with the snow to rain transition around 1000m. But still quite dry here in Omeo. But in the last hour or so we have had some very heavy downpours here. I'm hoping that's falling as snow up the hill. Will see in the morning...
I observe @Jellybeans, @POW_hungry et al are blooming brilliant with their predictions, not only with weather, but also jelly predicting that today would be the day of the season.
Because I observed that’s exactly what I had today at Mt Buller.
I observed tiny light dry flakes falling in the higher areas for most of the day, snow that was silent except for muffled foofs, and areas that were totally silent of people. I observed my ski gear doesn’t need to be dried over a radiator, and they are ready to wear as they are instead of needing drying
I observed colourful snowgums with boughs bowed over laden with snow, and that even after seeing them for years, they still take my breath away.
I observe the tables are full.
I know this is an observation thread but I’m going to stick my neck out here and make a prediction that the snags are going to take quite some time to cook on the BBQ.
Light sleet at thredbo diggings
Observations date range extended to include 12th. Monday morning should see some nice observations.
Blue bird day coming up, I can see Mt P. Snow in the trees looking upto Thredbo.
Good morning from Thredbo where we’ve seen another light top up overnight. Most of the cars below were new ones to arrive (and thus snowless yesterday arvo) so it looks like we’ve seen a dusting of around 3-5cm since about 5pm..
Definitely a bluebird day
Lake Mountain reporting 50cm in the past 24hrs.
Bawbs done superb as well.
Thredbo and perisher cams looking best ever this morning
Perisher Valley perfect bluebird day not a cloud in the sky. More snow overnight has filled in yesterday's tracks and it's currently -3 c.
Smiggins looking beautiful this morning
So much snow...The little rollers have been smoothed out
Haha snap!! Does look very very nice. So much snow
This snow train stopped at all stations but was running flat out between stops!
Team Bears loving the intense low ......
I am not even going to ask what their measuring 'stick' is these days...
It’s just a pink ruler
I observe lots of settled snow from space all the way up in the NSW CT's. Stunning!
Bluebird at Hotham. The snow is dry and easy turning. Blue ribbon was great this morning and coverage is good across the resort. Pics are top of orchard and the bridge at the bottom of Mary's
I observe it's looking epic around the Oz resorts today, would be as good as it gets conditions everywhere
DOTS for me at Thredbo. Great snow, hardly any crowds, no wind, plenty of sunshine, so much stoke.
Didn’t take any pics but took a couple of quick vids which I can’t seem to post, so below some stills from them:
So so nice at Perisher today. So much snow!! So many lines endless possibilities!!
Insane lesson in orographic lift and mountain orientation here..
All morning blue bird with S/SW winds..
Then pre-frontal W/NW kicks back in and boom, socked in!
Hope Hayden wasn't far from his camp at the switch!
Good obs. Less solar on it the better ahead of Fridee.
Videos need to be some sort of url link-Youtube or Facebook.
V. fine flakes in the air at Buller.
Interesting that the BOM gauge for Buller is reporting 9mm since 9am, should all be snow then?
Nope, would be melting ice. Plenty of drips off trees and chairlifts today.
Still lots of snow on the SE side of Mt Tennent. Would usually have melted by now.
I observe its all over; a fully awesome event.
Kapow !! Baw Baw yesterday
Mid Summit Saying 1mt
Nice spot ya got there
Flying back from Brisbane to Canberra today, the pilot drew our attention to snow “near Tamworth”.
Well the aftermath! Never seen that much snow on a sat pic for the CT's
Friday 9th August, captured by Terra/MODIS; beyond the fallout of ~60cm in 12 hours in upper-Thredbo.
The thing that caught my eye in this image is the projection of the system in the Indian Ocean to the West of WA.
SAM/-'ve AAO eat your heart out.
Could we see one like that come up over our alps...
Not a particularly anomalous low, but it remained in perfect, textbook form given it's peak over the IO. Rather than sweeping SE Aus where it's broken up and dried out.
The broad N/S projection is a classic example of 'meridonal flow' - the hallmark of a weak Polar Vort/-'ve SAM scenario.
I observe the people of Oberon are commonly the artistic type.
