A little sago in Thredbo village now.
South Perisher showing hail/sago fall in the deck but sun is now out
I thought the real action wasn't due until late this arvo and into the evening, what fell overnight was always going to be rain and or snow if lucky up high
Thredbo report: "A dusting of wet snow up high overnight" and no mention of the hosing down rain in the village
Next front with colder air should be due right about now IMO
Yes and.... A quick observation of snow reports also sudjest not all terrain (runs) is open in NSW either.
Back to obs
Cold the bight looks pretty good 10-15 IMO, sunny in Melb this morning
Morning in Sydney almost balmy
Here comes sumner
Just a bit of wind at Hotham
6 hrs ago would heve been better.
Well there is sun in Melbourne...
Plenty of sun. A beautiful cloudless morning as I look south across the city.
Should be some 'wet powder' at the top of Mt P then
You up there at the Royal Melbourne Hospital Mick?
Cracker of a day in Melbourne, it seems. Sydney just as good but warrrrmer!
Across the road. VCCC.
Today is the 10th, 9/10 was always the wet preamble with hopeful snow up high. The amount of wet appears to be pretty much what folk were calling in the prediction thread.
10/11 was the first predicted snow bearing front. Anytime now.
Looks and smells like spring up here in dandenong ranges Vic. Friends have a lodge booked at Baw Baw for the week, feeling sorry for them. Plenty of snow last year but not much this year. Just checked their cams not even enough for snow play. Fingers crossed they get a bit tonight.
I observe SA & Western Vic radars looking quite underwhelming. The follow-up/jetstream sitting south of the bight, maybe a late start observing tonight.
It looks even weaker than expected TBH.
I observe 2016 season - major letdown based on the Olympic year trend
Stay on topic.
All blow and no snow at Guthega atm.
snowing well on benlomond . a little Ra#n last night early but much more snow . its cold now so should continue
Some moisture crossing over Mt Gambier on the radar. Not a lot TBH, but enough for a few cm.
NSW south coast - Lake Tabourie beach.....looking for a patch of sand in the crowds. Sunny and warm at 22°
Quite a few peeps on the beach at manly. Car says 26 degrees.
Spring has hit The Cenco. Temp topped out at 27c on the Umina Beach weather station. Bluebird day with warm North Westerlies all day.
Only August and thoughts already turning to beach weather.
Fingers crossed for another Antarctic Blast to get here and get here fast. Pinning all my hopes for a slide on a half decent Sept
Nice clear day?? Maybe tonight ? try again..
Tonight hasn't happened yet.
hopefully a bit of warm weather will keep the crowds in sydney away for the rest of the season/whats left of the season
Trough passed over Mt Gambier about 1-1.5hours ago. Western Vic radar starting to flare up a little.
ETA for alps, T-6 hours (give/take resort dependant)
Was looking really dark and gloomy out Colac way an hour or so ago. Here's hoping
Raining at Hotham
Moderately heavy granular/ sago snow hitting Hotham as of just now
Just been out for a few waves at Bells. Solid bank of cloud looming to the southwest. Looks wet.
Are you in Davenport or up top?
Keep up the good work with the Obs. I have some family and friends heading down tomorrow so im being pumped for live updates.
20 cents tonight and a sunny weekend will do nicely
I observe lightning NW of sydney
Incoming for SW Melbourne
Thunderhead passed just North of Umina about an hour ago. Atmosphere is primed.
Cenco scored 66ml over the weekend so throw in some midday heat and cooling uppers and its primed.
I am thinking Sydco will see a wild spring. Sept 2000 style IMO
Certainly felt the instability in the air today in Sydney. There was some nice cumulus clouds brewing mid-arvo here in Bondi. Had a very odd sun shower around 3:30pm. Very Spring-summer like conditions with a max of 25 today.
So will the rain make it to the hills?
Southern resorts should see something out of it, but I am thinking nothing much more than a few light-moderate showers through tonight.
Nice cell heading towards Norah Head and another to Newy. Intense and fast moving. Spring specials
Geelong and Melb getting smashed my radar obs
And with good reason!
Wow that radar really fattened up incoming Melbourne.
Going to be some solid rain for a good hour or so.
Hopefully it makes it to the mountains and it could drop a decent 15-20cm tonight.
Just looked. Wow!
Had no idea. Was at Balaclava station which is elevated, wind was picking right up.
Just gonna get home before it hits, thankfully. Will be close.
